예수께서 다시 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “나는 세상의 빛이다. 나를 따르는 사람은 어둠 속에 다니지 아니하고, 생명의 빛을 얻을 것이다.” (요한복음 8:12)
현관밖과 안에 전등이 달려있는데, 오래된 등이라 전구크기도 일반적이지 않고, 밖에있는 등은 전등을 어떻게 다루어야할지 모르다, 큰맘먹고 지난주에 전구를 다 갈았습니다. 맞는 전구를 찾아서 주문하고, 조심스럽게 천장에 달린 전등갓을 공구로 분리해서 안에를 열었더니 오랜세월 빛을 쫓아 스며든 곤충의 사체 그리고 거미줄을 제거하고 전구를 LED전구로 갈아 넣었습니다. 예전보다 밝아진 현관 등으로 인해 동네에서 가장 눈에 띄는 집이 되어버렸습니다. 환한 빛이 현관앞에 달려있는 주소를 환하게 비추고 다른 어느집보다 밝은 빛을 비춰지다보니 문앞에 대한 정리정도 그리고 마당과 뒷마당에 대한 정리정돈이 신경쓰이게 되었습니다.
환한 빛으로 잘 보인다는 생각은 이렇게 생각이 연장되더니, 결국 집 주변 정리까지 계획하고 준비하도록 이끌어갑니다. 빛이 들어오니 더 넓은 공간을 기대하고 다듬고 다루려고 하는 마음은 빛이 어떻게 우리들의 삶을 이끌어가는지를 잘 보여주는 것 같습니다.
나는 세상의 빛이다. 단순히 어둠을 밝히는 빛으로 예수님이 스스로를 이야기하신것이 아닌것 같습니다. 어둠을 밝히는 것과 더불어 환하게 밝혀진 것들에게는 큰 희망을 그리고 그 희망을 세상을 더욱 환하게 하는 힘으로 이끌어가는 것 같습니다. "내가 세상의 빛이다"는 예수님의 선언은 우리를 깊은 하나님의 손길로 인도하는 선언이고, 그 빛가운데 모든 것이 바뀌어가는 것을 기대하게 합니다.
"생명의 빛을 얻을 것이다" 이말은 예수를 믿고 이땅을 살아가는 우리들의 시선이 점점 더 넓어지고, 관심갖지 않던 것에 관심을 갖고, 마음을 쓰지 않던 것을 마음에 쓰고, 사랑하지 않던것들을 사랑하게되는 것을 의미하는것 같습니다.
묵상
세상의 빛으로 산다는 건, 더 많은 것을 관심갖고 사는 것이라는 생각이 듭니다.

Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)
There are light fixtures installed both inside and outside my front entrance. Due to their age, the bulbs are of an uncommon size, and I was unsure how to handle the exterior fixture. Last week, I finally decided to replace all the bulbs. After finding and ordering the correct bulbs, I carefully used tools to detach the ceiling-mounted fixtures. Inside, I discovered and cleaned out the remains of insects and cobwebs that had accumulated over the years, drawn to the light. I then replaced the old bulbs with LED ones. As a result, my front entrance became the most noticeable in the neighborhood due to its increased brightness. The bright light illuminated the house number by the entrance and shone more brightly than any other house, prompting me to pay more attention to organizing the area around the door, as well as the front and back yards.
The realization that everything is clearly visible under bright light led me to plan and prepare for tidying up the surroundings of my house. This experience illustrates how light guides our lives.
When Jesus declared, "I am the light of the world," it seems He was not merely referring to a light that dispels darkness. In addition to illuminating the darkness, the bright light brings great hope to what is revealed, guiding that hope to further brighten the world. Jesus' proclamation, "I am the light of the world," is a declaration that leads us into the profound hands of God, allowing us to anticipate transformation in the midst of that light.
The phrase "will have the light of life" suggests that as we live on this earth believing in Jesus, our perspectives broaden, we become interested in things we previously ignored, we care about matters we once neglected, and we come to love those we did not love before.

Living as the light of the world seems to mean taking an interest in more things.
