2 그리스도께서 여러분을 사랑하셔서, 우리를 위하여 하나님 앞에 향기로운 예물과 제물로 자기 몸을 내어주신 것과 같이, 여러분도 사랑으로 살아가십시오. (에베소서 5:2)

에베소교회는 이방인들과 유대인들이 함께 세운 교회공동체였습니다. 바울 서신에 등장한 이런 교회는 주로 율법과 복음의 관계에 혼란을 겪습니다. 이런 에베소교회를 향해 바울은 "예수를 믿고 이전의 삶의 방식이 아닌 새로운 사람으로 새로운 삶의 방식으로 살아가는 것" 그리고 "이런 새 모습은 혼자 드러낼 수 없고 다른 사람과 관계를 통해 들어날 수 있고 " 이 관계는 구체적으로 "하나님을 본맏아 사랑가운데 행하는 것"이라고 가르칩니다.

이 간단하고 익숙한 이야기속에 바울의 깊은 고민을 발견합니다. 당시 에베소 교회도 하나가 되는 것이 쉽지 않았고, 실제로 복음적인 삶을 사는 것은 생각보다 많은 노력이 필요하다는 것이고, 결국 하나님의 사랑을 실천하는 것을 통해 우리들은 비로소 새사람이 될 수있다는 것입니다.

현재, 교회의 고민은 이와 비슷하다고 볼 수 있습니다. 세상에 교회는 많은데, 우리가 기대하는 교히의 모양은 다양하고, 사람들이 교회는 이런곳!이다고 이야기하는 방향도 차이가 있습니다. 우리는 나와 맞는 교회를 찾는 것을 하나의 교회를 정하는 기준이 되는데 실제로는 교회는 사실 변화된 자신이 다른 변화된 사람들과 모여서 함께 세워지는 것입니다. 혹 나와 맞지 않은 교회!라는 판단은 새로운 삶, 하나님의 사랑이 잘 드러나지 않다는 것을 이야기하는 것일 수 도 있습니다.

교회를 든든히 세워간다는 것에 대한 고민이 깊어지는 시기에 살고 있습니다. 바라기는 깊은 영성을 세워가는 교회로 열린교회가 든든히 세워져가는 것을 함께 노력하기를 기대해봅니다. 교회가 이런 교회 저런교회 소문이 난다면 열린교회는 하나님을 본받아 사랑가운데 행하는 교회"였음 좋겠습니다. 그러니 우리가 하는 모든 일들이 하나님의 사랑을 기본으로 하는 것입니다.

변화된 삶은 내 삶을 보고 이야기하는 것입니다.

1. 교회학교, 유스 청년들을 위해서 기도해주세요. 특히 새로운 사역자를 모시기 위해 노력하고 있습니다. 잘 준비되도록 모든 진행이 하나님의 은혜가운데 잘 마련되도록 기도해주세요.

"Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." (Ephesians 5:2)

The church in Ephesus was a community built by both Gentiles and Jewish believers. Churches like this one, as Paul's letters show, tended to struggle with the relationship between law and gospel. Into that struggle, Paul speaks: believe in Jesus and live no longer by the old way, but as a new person with a new way of life. And this new life, he says, cannot be displayed in isolation — it only becomes visible through relationship with others. That relationship is defined concretely as walking in love, modeled after God himself.

In these familiar and simple words, Paul's deeper wrestling comes through. Unity was not easy for the Ephesian church either. Living the gospel in practice required far more effort than it might appear. And becoming a new person, Paul is saying, happens through the actual practice of God's love — not just holding the idea of it.

The church today is wrestling with something remarkably similar. There are churches everywhere, and yet what people expect a church to look like varies widely. Finding a church that fits has become one of the primary criteria for choosing one. But the truth is, a church is built when transformed people gather with other transformed people and build something together. When someone says a church doesn't feel right for them, it may sometimes be worth asking whether the new life — the love of God made visible — is flowing freely, in them and in the community around them.

This is a season of deepening questions about what it means to build a church that stands. My hope for Yeolin Church is that we would grow into a community of deep spirituality — and if word ever gets around about what kind of church we are, I would want people to say: that church walked in love, modeled after God. Everything we do flows from that foundation.

Intercessory Prayer

1. Please pray for our children's ministry, youth, and young adults. We are actively working to bring on a new ministry staff member — please pray that everything comes together well and that the whole process unfolds in God's grace.

2. Please pray for the health of our Somanghwe seniors.
