"그러므로 우리는 들은 바를 더욱 굳게 간직하여, 잘못된 길로 빠져드는 일이 없어야 마땅하겠습니다." (히 2:1, 새번역)

이런 드라마가 있을 정도로 축구가 재미를 더합니다. 메시라는 한 선수가 그 나이에도 엄청난 활약으로 영국을 상대로 승리를 이끌어냅니다. 전세계 스포츠 스타중에 이 선수가 지닌 영향력은 대단합니다. 문득 각 나라의 응원장면이 공개된걸 보면, 모두 똑같은 감정과 마음으로 자국의 선수들을 응원한다는 생각이 들었습니다.

대한민국축구에 불만을 갖는것도 이런의미에서 가능한거라는 생각이 들었습니다. 전세계가 열광하는 축구시즌에 모두가 함께 보고 놀라고 감동받고 있는 것이니 축구라는 스포츠가 대단하다는 생각이 들었습니다. 교회에서 집에 오는 길에 보면, 잔디가 깔린 공터는 전부 축구장으로 변했습니다. 방에서 뒹굴던 축구공을 들고 아들도 친구들과 축구를 하겠다고 매일 나갑니다.

이런 열정이라면 미국이 곧 월드컵 우승을 바라보는 시간이 금새올것 같습니다. 사람들이 그 만큼 축구에 열광하고 있다는 뜻이겠죠.

히브리서 1장에서 예수님이 누구신지를 선언하는 내용 다음에 오늘 본문이 읽혀집니다. 그러므로로 시작하니 아마 더 보충, 또는 하고 싶은 이야기를 한다는 의미가 담겨 있겠죠. 결론적으로 히브리서 기자는 그러니까 예수님이 말씀한 것을 잘 간직하라는 의미에서 2장을 기록하고 있습니다.

2장 1절에 처음 등장하는 문장이 "잘못된 길로 빠져드는 일이 없어야." 라는 표현이 나옵니다. 헬라어 원본에 등장하는 문장은 "배가 부두에서 서서히 흘러내려가는 이미지"를 이야기하는 문장입니다. 즉 밧줄을 잘 묶어두지 않으면 배가 조용히, 아무도 모르게 떠내려간다는 것입니다.

드라마틱하게 믿음을 잃는 것이 아닙니다. 조금씩, 모르는 사이에, 그냥 흘러가는 것입니다. 바쁘게 살다 보면 어느 순간 중요한 것에서 멀어져 있는 경험. 그것이 잘못된 길로 빠져드는 것의 실제 모습일 수 있습니다. 3절에서 히브리서가 날카롭게 묻습니다. "하물며 우리가 이렇게도 귀중한 구원을 소홀히 하고서야, 어떻게 그 갚음을 피할 수 있겠습니까?" 소홀히 하는 것이 문제라는 것입니다. 적극적으로 거부하는 것이 아니라, 그냥 대수롭지 않게 여기는 것. 중요한 것을 중요하지 않게 여기는 것. 그것이 위험이라는 것입니다.

축구에 대한 열정을 보면서, 신앙도 이런 자극과 집중 그리고 함께 공유할 수 있는 시선을 가지는 것이 필요하겠다는 생각이 들었습니다. 마치 고이 집안에만 있던 축구공을 들고 운동장으로 뛰쳐나가는 것처럼, 우리의 신앙과 믿으도 어쩌면 조용한 곳에 모셔두고는 언젠가는 열심을 낼거야..라는 말만 되풀이하고 실제로 아무일도 일어나지 않는 것에 무감각해지는 것을 깨워야하지 않을까?라는 생각이 들었습니다.

열린교회에서 신앙생활하는 모습에 여러분들의 신앙과 믿음의 여정에 기대가 되는지도 저는 궁금합니다. 하나님이 열어가실 새로운 일, 그 일을 위해 최선을 다하는 우리들을 기대해봅니다.

The drama of this World Cup keeps delivering. Messi, at his age, still putting in a performance like that — leading Argentina past England on the strength of something that looks less like athleticism and more like force of will. Among global sports figures, his influence is in a category of its own. Watching the crowd scenes from different countries, what strikes me is how the same emotion crosses every border — every fan, in every nation, feeling the same thing at the same moment. Football does something few things can.

The frustration Koreans feel about their national team makes sense in exactly this context. The whole world is watching, being surprised, being moved — and in the middle of all that shared feeling, the gap between what you're seeing elsewhere and what you're seeing from your own team is hard to swallow. On the way home from church, every patch of grass has turned into a makeshift pitch. My son grabbed his soccer ball — the one that had been sitting in his room — and has been heading out with friends every day. If this kind of energy takes hold, it won't be long before the United States is genuinely contending for a World Cup.

Hebrews 2 follows directly from the declaration in chapter 1 about who Jesus is. The word therefore signals that what comes next grows out of what just came before — the writer wants to press further, to say what needs to be said in light of all that. The core of it is this: hold tightly to what you have heard from Jesus. Don't let it slip.

The phrase in verse 1 — drift away — carries a particular image in the original Greek. A boat at the dock, slowly slipping its moorings. If the rope isn't tied properly, the boat doesn't crash or capsize. It just quietly moves away from where it was supposed to stay. That is the picture. Faith isn't usually lost in a dramatic moment. It drifts. Slowly, without anyone noticing, life gets busy and the important things end up further away than we realized. Verse 3 sharpens the warning: how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? Ignore — not reject. Just treat it as less urgent than it is. That is the danger.

Watching the passion people bring to football, I found myself thinking: faith needs something like this — the energy, the focus, the shared vision that pulls people off the couch and into the open. Like my son picking up that soccer ball and running outside, there is something in us that needs to be roused. It's easy to keep faith stored quietly somewhere, telling ourselves we'll get serious about it eventually — and gradually becoming numb to the fact that nothing is actually happening.

I find myself genuinely curious: is your faith alive with expectation here at Yeolin Church? Is there something you are looking forward to, something you believe God is about to open up? I am.
