그러나 너희의 눈은 지금 보고 있으니 복이 있으며, 너희의 귀는 지금 듣고 있으니 복이 있다.(매 13:16)

요즘 월드컵이 막바지라 축구보는 재미가 있습니다. 가장 큰 묘미는 모두의 예상을 깨고 언더독의 승리를 보는 것이겠죠. 스페인과 프랑스의 경기, 누구나 프랑스의 승리를 예상했었는데, 스페인이 프랑스를 축구못하는 팀으로 만들어 버릴 정도로 전술적으로 우위에 점유율을 높이면서 승리했습니다.

우승후보를 순식간에 축구못하는 팀으로 만들어버린 스페인의 전술은 축구는 개인이 하는 경기가 아니라, 팀전체가 전술에 의해 움직이는 경기임을 잘 보여주었습니다.

또 다른 재미는 거의 질뻔한 경기를 막판에 얼마 안남은 시간에 역전승을 하는 경기이죠. 아르헨티나가 지금까지 계속 이런 쫄깃한 경기력으로 준결승까지 올라왔고 오늘 영국과 결승행을 두고 경기를 합니다.

축구를 보면 선수 개인의 화려한 기술에 감탄을 하기도 하지만, 팀전체가 상대팀을 어떻게 대처하고 준비했는지를 보는 재미도 있는것 같습니다. 2002년 한일 월드컵 이후에 한국의 축구 눈높이는 세계적 수준에 올랐고, 그러다보니, 이번 한국팀에 대한 냉정한 국민들의 비판은 그만큼 보는 눈과 기준이 생겼다는 것을 보여주는 것 같습니다.

오늘 본문은 예수님이 시뿌리는 자의 비유를 말씀하신 후에 전하신 말씀입니다. 왜 비유로 말씀을 전하는 지에 대해서 제자들에게 질문을 하고, 비유의 속성에 대해서 이야기하십니다. 한번에 알아채지 못하고 깊이 생각해야 그리고 고민해야 깨달을 수 있는 비유적 화법은 제자들을 좀더 진지한 삶으로 초대합니다. "귀가 있어도 듣지 못하고, 눈이 있어도 보지 못한다"는 이사야 말씀을 전하시면서 비유는 곧 마음을 두고 들으려고 하는 사람들에게는 확연하게 드러나 보이지만, 그렇지 못한 자들에게는 보이지 않는 것임을 이야기하십니다.

이런의미에서 제자들은 복이 있다는 것이 예수님의 말씀입니다. 가끔 우리는 볼 수 있는 데 보지 못하는 것 같은 축국감독때문에 화가납니다. 화가 나는 이유는 내가 봐도 볼수 있는 걸, 보지 못하고 있어서, 아니 일부러 그러는 것 같아 화가 나는 겁니다. 일부러 그렇게 하는 것은 아니기를 바라지만, 잘 안되는 방향으로 만 간다고 생각이 드니 화가날수 밖에 없습니다.

예수님의 비유는 그런데 의도적입니다. 귀있는자는 들을지어다! 이 한 만디처럼, 예수님의 복음은 선포되어도 이를 알아듣는 자들과 알아듣지 못하는 자들이 존재한다는 것입니다.

삶을 살다보면, 짐작도 하고 대처도 하며, 계산이라는 것을 합니다. 꽤 촘촘히 계획을 해도 계획대로 살아지지 않는 것이 삶이지만, 이런 준비와 대처는 예상치 못한 일에도 당황하지 않을 수 있는 준비된 마음으로 마주할 용기를 갖게 합니다.

우리가 기대하는 교회와, 예수님의 삶, 그리고 성도들과 관계, 이 모든 것들이 우리들에게 익숙한것처럼 느껴지지만, 그 안에는 이미 잘 훈련되고, 볼수 있는 눈도 있고, 들을수 있는 귀가 있다는 것으로 우리는 조화롭게 마주하는 막막함을 함께 극복하고 이겨낼수 있습니다.

교회는 비밀 스러운 것을 알고 공유하는 공동체가 아니라, 이미 세상에 알려진것을 잘 볼 수 있고, 들을 수 있고, 성숙함과 그 너머에 예상치 못한 것도 온마음으로 받아들일 수 있는 영적인 여유를 품고 있는 자들이 모여 함께 세워가는 공동체입니다. 이유는 딱 한가지입니다. 하나님의 꿈, 하나님의 나라, 하나님의 일을 성취하기 위한것입니다. 이를 잘 기억하는 오늘 하루가 되시기를 바랍니다.

우리가 모여서 힘쓰는 이유는 하나님 나라에 대한 소망! 곧 천국에 대한 소망과 성취를 위한것입니다.

"But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear." (Matthew 13:16)

The World Cup is in its final stretch, and there is a lot to enjoy. One of the greatest pleasures is watching the underdog win against all expectations. The Spain vs. France match — everyone assumed France would win, and yet Spain dismantled them so completely that France looked like a team that had forgotten how to play. Spain's tactical dominance showed something important: soccer is not a game of individual brilliance alone, but of an entire team moving together according to a shared plan.

The other kind of thrill is the last-minute comeback — nearly losing, and then flipping it in the dying minutes. Argentina has been delivering exactly that kind of nerve-wracking drama all the way to the semifinals, and today they face England for a spot in the final. Watching soccer, you can be dazzled by individual skill, but there is a deeper pleasure in reading how a team has prepared for and responded to the opponent in front of them. Since the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, Korean fans' eyes for the game have been raised to a world-class level — which is probably why the criticism of the Korean national team this tournament has been so sharp. People know what they're looking at now.

Today's passage comes right after Jesus tells the parable of the sower. The disciples ask why he speaks in parables, and Jesus explains the nature of parabolic speech itself. Parables are not immediately transparent — they require attention, reflection, and genuine engagement. They invite the listener into a more serious posture. Jesus quotes Isaiah: you will be ever hearing but never understanding, ever seeing but never perceiving — and says the parable reveals itself clearly to those who are genuinely listening, and remains opaque to those who are not.

In that light, Jesus says the disciples are blessed. We sometimes get frustrated watching a soccer coach who can't seem to see what everyone else can see — as if they're deliberately ignoring the obvious. Whether deliberate or not, when things keep going in the wrong direction, the frustration builds. But Jesus' use of parables is intentional in a different way. Whoever has ears, let them hear — the gospel is proclaimed, and yet some receive it and some don't. That gap is real.

Life involves calculation and preparation — anticipating what might come, planning ahead. Even the most careful plans don't hold perfectly, but the posture of preparation means that when the unexpected arrives, we are not paralyzed. We can meet it with some readiness.

The church we hope for, the life of Jesus, the relationships among believers — all of it may feel familiar. And yet within it, the trained eye and the attentive ear make it possible to face what feels overwhelming together and work through it. The church is not a community of people guarding secret knowledge. It is a community of people who can see what has already been made known, who can hear what has already been said, and who carry a spiritual spaciousness — a maturity that can receive even the unexpected with an open heart. The reason is simple: to participate in God's dream, God's kingdom, God's work being accomplished in this world. May today be a day we hold that clearly in mind.
