1 John 2:1–11, January 2, 2026 (Friday), 요한일서 2 : 1~11, 2026.01.02 (금)

어제 떡국을 가족들과 먹으면서 나이 먹음에 대한 이야기를 나누었습니다. 아이들과 해마다 찍은 사진을 보여주면서 불과 몇년전만 해도 아이같더 아이들이 어른처럼 자란것에 서로 놀라며 떡국 한그릇 먹었으니 또 나이를 먹는다는 농담을 나누었습니다.

2026년은 열린교회 40주년이 되는 시간입니다. 중년이 나이로 접어드는 교회에 많은 변화가 있었으니 그 만큼 성숙해졌기를 또한 더 성장했기를 바라는 마음으로 올 한해 사역은 이루어질것 같습니다. 숫자가 쌓여가는 만큼 그대로 성장하면 좋겠다는 생각입니다.

새해가 시작되고 이틀째 아침을 맞이합니다. 아직은 새해 결심도, 다짐도 이제 막 시작하는 순간의 시간입니다. 이때 요한일서의 말씀은 우리에게 너무 크지 않은, 그러나 분명한 방향을 제시합니다.

우리가 죄를 짓지 않기를 바라지만, 혹 넘어질지라도 예수 그리스도께서 우리를 위해 하나님 앞에서 대언자가 되어 주신다! 새해의 출발은 완벽함이 아니라, 은혜 위에 다시 서는 용기에서 시작됩니다.

그리고 요한은 분명히 말합니다. 하나님을 안다는 고백은 말이 아니라 순종과 사랑으로 증명된다고. 그 사랑은 거창한 것이 아니라, 오늘 곁에 있는 형제를 향한 마음과 태도에서 드러납니다. 형제를 사랑하는 사람은 빛 가운데 거하고, 그 길에는 걸려 넘어질 것이 없다고 말합니다.

새해 둘째 날, 오늘 하루, 사랑을 선택하는 작은 순종이 있다면 우리는 이미 빛 가운데 걷고 있다는 것을 기억하시기 바랍니다. 것입니다.

달력의 숫자만 바뀌었을 뿐 우리가 마주하는 현실은 그대로라는 것을 잘 알고 계실것입니다. 그럼에도, 이번에 무언가 변화를 시작하기를 원하신다면, 지금 내 삶이 은혜로 시작했고, 사랑으로 한 걸음씩 걸어간다는 사실을 기억하시기 바랍니다.

결국 변화는 우리가 어떻게 살아내냐로 시작되는 것 같습니다.

2. 이번주 주일 첫예배를 드립니다. 기쁨으로 2026년 첫에배가 기쁨이 넘쳐나기를 바랍니다.

Yesterday, as we shared tteokguk with our family, we talked about getting older. Looking at photos taken with our children year after year, we were surprised at how the children who seemed like kids just a few years ago have grown into young adults. Laughing together, we joked that after one bowl of tteokguk, we had all aged another year.

The year 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of Yeolin Church. As a church entering what might be called its middle years, we have experienced many changes. With those changes, we hope there has also been maturity—and even greater growth. As the years accumulate, my prayer is that our growth would deepen just as steadily.

We are now greeting the morning of the second day of the new year. New Year’s resolutions and commitments are only just beginning to take shape. At this moment, the words of 1 John offer us a direction that is not overwhelming, yet unmistakably clear.

We are encouraged not to sin, but even if we stumble, Jesus Christ stands before God as our advocate. The beginning of a new year does not start with perfection, but with the courage to stand again on the foundation of grace.

John is also very clear: claiming to know God is not proven by words, but by obedience and love. That love does not have to be grand or dramatic. It is revealed in our attitude and care toward the brothers and sisters beside us today. Those who love remain in the light, and on that path there is nothing that causes them to stumble.

On this second day of the new year, remember this: if today we choose even a small act of obedience rooted in love, we are already walking in the light.

We know well that only the numbers on the calendar have changed, while the reality we face remains the same. Still, if you desire to begin something new this year, remember this truth: your life has begun in grace, and it is meant to be walked forward, one step at a time, in love.

In the end, real change seems to begin with how we choose to live each day.

Intercessory Prayer

1. Please pray that in the new year 2026, every ministry and department may grow within God’s grace.

2. This week, we will gather for the first Sunday worship of the year. May the first worship service of 2026 be filled with joy and thanksgiving.
