Hebrews 3:1–6, Thursday, June 11, 히브리서 3:1-6, 6월11일 목요일

"그리스도께서는 하나님의 집을 맡은 아들로서 신실하셨습니다." (히 3:6a, 새번역)

히브리서는 예수님과 모세를 연결시키는데 반복적으로 "신실함"에 대해서 이야기합니다. 그런데, 1절에보면, 우리를 "하늘의 부르심을 함께 받은 거룩한 형제자매"라고 부릅니다. 모세가 예수님과 연결된것처럼 우리들도 모세와, 예수님과 함께 연결된 존재라는 이야기를 하고 있습니다. 그렇다면 우리들도 신실함으로 삶을 살아가는 존재라는 뜻이겠죠.

시간이 지나고, 마땅한 때가 오면 그 만한 자격이나 책임이 주어지는 것이 아닙니다. 어떤 노력과 어떤 고민 그리고 어떤 생각을 해왔는가에 따라 그 모양은 만들어지고, 삶도 세워져가는 것이겠죠.

히브리서는 우리를 그냥 그리스도인! 이라는 의미에서 신실함으로 예수와 동행하고, 모세와 같은 존재라고 이야기합니다. 지금은 이렇게 쉽게 이야기하지만, 당시 유대인들에게 이 이야기는 충격적인 이야기였을 것입니다.

오늘날 우리들에게도 이 이야기는 충격적입니다. 내가 신실해야하는 이유, 그리고 늘 거룩하게 이 땅을 살아가야하는 이유를 잘 설명하고 있습니다.

오늘 한국과 체코의 월드컵 첫번째 경기가 있습니다. 4년마다 개최되는 축구전쟁이라고 부르는 이 축구축제에 공하나에 전세계가 주목합니다. 예전과 달리 그 열기가 크지는 않지만, 북중미에서 하는 만큼 우리들에게 특별한 응원과 우리들이 이런 기회를 살려서 함께 모이려는 것은 참 좋은것 같습니다. 한30명정도 모일것 같은데, 교회안에 모든 시스템 설치를 완비해놨으니 오시면 함께하는 기쁨을 누릴 수 있을 겁니다.

신실함과 동시에 늘 고민해야할것은 공동체성입니다. 우리들이 어떤 공동체의 마음을 가지고 살아가고 있는지 그리고 어떤 생각으로 삶을 세워가야 하는지 우리는 주님과 동행하며 신실함으로 함께하는 공동체성을 통해 세워갑니다.

묵상

예수님과 우리가 연결되어 있고, 예수님과 모세의 신실함이 우리들에게도 연결되어 있습니다.

"Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house." (Hebrews 3:6a)

Hebrews connects Jesus and Moses, and returns repeatedly to the word faithful. But before that comparison even begins, verse 1 stops me with how it addresses us: holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling. Not servants. Brothers and sisters. Just as Moses is connected to Jesus in this passage, we are being told that we too are connected — to Moses, to Jesus, into that same lineage of faithfulness. Which means we are people who are called to live faithfully as well.

Readiness doesn't arrive simply because the time has passed or the occasion has come. It is shaped by what we have been thinking about, what we have been wrestling with, what we have been choosing — over a long stretch of ordinary days. Life takes the form of what we have been building inside ourselves.

Hebrews is saying something almost audacious: that we, simply as Christians, are people who walk with Jesus in faithfulness — people connected to the same story as Moses. We say that easily enough now. But for the Jewish readers of this letter, the claim would have been genuinely shocking. Moses was the center of everything — and here they are, being told they stand in that same line.

It is still a little shocking today, if we let it sink in. It tells us clearly why faithfulness matters, why we are called to live as people set apart in this world — not out of obligation, but because of who we are connected to.

Tonight Korea plays Czech Republic in their first World Cup match. Every four years the world stops for this — a single ball pulling the attention of billions. The energy feels a little different from years past, but with the tournament being held in North America this time, there is something special about being close to it. We are expecting around thirty people to gather — the church is fully set up and ready, so come and enjoy being together.

Alongside faithfulness, the thing I keep turning over is community. What kind of communal heart are we living with? What kind of thinking is shaping how we build our lives together? We are formed through walking with the Lord in faithfulness — and through the life of community we share with one another.

Reflection

We are connected to Jesus, and the faithfulness of Jesus and Moses is extended to us as well.
