9   그리고 앞에 서서 가는 무리와 뒤따라오는 무리가 외쳤다. 4)"5)호산나, 다윗의 자손께! 복되시다, 주님의 이름으로 오시는 분! 더없이 높은 곳에서 호산나!"

예수님께서 예루살렘에 입성하시는 장면은 겉으로 보기에는 매우 영광스럽고 환호로 가득 찬 순간입니다. 사람들은 종려나무 가지를 흔들고, 겉옷을 길에 펴며 왕을 맞이하듯 예수님을 환영합니다. 그들의 입에서는 “호산나”라는 외침이 터져 나옵니다.

그러나 이 장면을 조금만 깊이 들여다보면, 그 환호 속에 담긴 기대가 결코 단순하지 않다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. “호산나”는 단순한 찬양의 구호가 아니라 “우리를 구원하소서”라는 간절한 외침입니다. 사람들은 예수님을 통해 로마의 억압에서 벗어나고, 현실적인 문제들이 해결되기를 기대했습니다. 그들의 기대는 매우 구체적이고, 동시에 매우 인간적이었습니다.

문제는, 그들이 기대한 구원의 방식과 예수님이 이루시려는 구원의 방식 사이에 깊은 간극이 있었다는 것입니다. 사람들은 힘 있는 왕을 원했지만, 예수님은 나귀를 타고 오셨습니다. 사람들은 즉각적인 변화와 승리를 원했지만, 예수님은 십자가를 향해 걸어가고 계셨습니다.

우리의 신앙도 이와 다르지 않습니다. 우리는 종종 하나님께 “호산나”를 외치며 우리의 문제를 해결해 달라고 요청합니다. 그러나 그 기도의 내용이 하나님의 뜻과 방향을 향하고 있는지, 아니면 단지 나의 기대를 관철시키기 위한 것인지 돌아볼 필요가 있습니다.

예수님은 우리가 원하는 방식이 아니라, 우리를 살리는 방식으로 일하시는 분입니다. 그래서 때로는 그분의 길이 이해되지 않고, 오히려 실망스럽게 느껴지기도 합니다. 그러나 십자가를 지나 부활로 이어지는 하나님의 구원은 언제나 더 깊고, 더 근본적인 회복을 향합니다.

오늘 아침, 우리가 다시 “호산나”를 부를 때, 그 고백이 단순한 요구가 아니라 주님의 길을 신뢰하는 믿음의 선언이 되기를 바랍니다. 내가 원하는 방식이 아니라, 주님이 이루시는 구원을 받아들이는 것이 진정한 신앙이기 때문입니다.

9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed were shouting,“Hosanna to the Son of David!Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

At first glance, Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem appears to be a moment filled with glory and celebration. People waved palm branches, spread their cloaks on the road, and welcomed Him as if receiving a king. From their lips burst the cry, “Hosanna!”

Yet when we look a little deeper, we begin to see that the expectations behind their praise were not simple. “Hosanna” was not merely a shout of praise—it was a desperate plea meaning, “Save us.” The people longed to be delivered from Roman oppression, hoping that Jesus would solve their immediate, tangible problems. Their expectations were specific, and very human.

The problem was this: there was a deep gap between the kind of salvation they expected and the salvation Jesus came to bring. They wanted a powerful king, but Jesus came riding on a donkey. They desired immediate change and visible victory, but Jesus was walking toward the cross.

Our faith is not so different. We often cry out “Hosanna,” asking God to fix our problems. But we must pause and examine whether our prayers are aligned with God’s will—or if they are simply attempts to impose our own expectations.

Jesus does not work according to the way we want, but according to the way that truly saves us. At times, His path is difficult to understand and may even feel disappointing. Yet the salvation that moves through the cross and leads to resurrection is always deeper and more complete than we imagine.

This morning, as we once again say “Hosanna,” may it not be merely a demand, but a confession of trust in the Lord’s way. True faith is not insisting on our way, but receiving the salvation that He accomplishes.

Intercessory Prayer

1. We are currently participating in a church-wide Scripture writing project. Since the previous setup was uncomfortable, we have now replaced it with desks. We hope many will take part in this practice, and that together we may complete the writing of Scripture. At the moment, we are working on Genesis chapter 3.

2. We also have an Easter Festival coming up at church. Please pray that it will be a time filled with the joy of the resurrection, and that all preparations may go smoothly without any difficulties.
