내 영혼아, 주님을 찬송하여라. 주님이 베푸신 모든 은혜를 잊지 말아라.(시편 103:2)

시편 103편은 다윗이 자신의 영혼에게 말을 걸며 시작하는 시편입니다. “내 영혼아, 여호와를 송축하라.” 우리의 신앙에서 종종 일어나는 문제는 하나님이 계시지 않는 것이 아니라, 하나님이 우리에게 베푸신 은혜를 우리가 잊어버린다는 데 있습니다. 그래서 다윗은 자신의 영혼을 향해 하나님을 찬양하라고 명령하면서 동시에 “그의 모든 은혜를 잊지 말라”고 말합니다. 신앙은 단순한 감정이 아니라 기억에서 시작됩니다. 하나님이 하신 일을 기억할 때 우리의 마음은 다시 하나님께로 향하게 됩니다.

다윗은 이어서 하나님이 베푸신 은혜를 하나씩 떠올립니다. 하나님은 우리의 모든 죄를 용서하시고, 우리의 모든 병을 고치시며, 우리의 생명을 파멸에서 건지시는 분이십니다. 또한 하나님은 인자와 긍휼로 우리의 삶을 덮어 주시고, 우리의 삶을 좋은 것으로 만족하게 하시는 분이십니다. 다윗은 하나님이 하신 일을 천천히 되새기며 자신의 영혼을 다시 하나님께로 돌이킵니다. 우리의 아침도 이와 같을 수 있습니다. 하루를 시작할 때 우리는 오늘 해야 할 일들과 걱정들을 먼저 떠올리기 쉽습니다. 그러나 시편 103편은 우리에게 다른 시작을 가르쳐 줍니다. 오늘 해야 할 일을 생각하기 전에, 이미 하나님이 우리에게 하신 일을 기억하라는 것입니다.

시편 103편은 또 하나님이 어떤 분이신지를 깊이 보여 줍니다. “아버지가 자식을 긍휼히 여김 같이 여호와께서는 자기를 경외하는 자를 긍휼히 여기신다”고 말씀합니다. 하나님은 우리의 연약함을 모르시는 분이 아니라, 우리의 연약함을 아시는 분이십니다. 하나님은 우리가 흙으로 지음 받은 존재임을 기억하시며 우리를 대하십니다. 그래서 우리의 신앙은 우리가 얼마나 강한 사람인가에 달려 있지 않습니다. 오히려 하나님이 얼마나 자비로우신 분인가에 달려 있습니다. 우리가 연약할 때에도 하나님은 우리를 버리지 않으시고, 아버지가 자녀를 품듯이 우리를 품어 주십니다.

이 아침에 시편 103편은 우리에게 조용히 질문합니다. 오늘 우리의 영혼은 무엇을 바라보고 있는가 하는 것입니다. 걱정과 염려를 바라보고 있는지, 아니면 하나님이 이미 베푸신 은혜를 기억하고 있는지 묻습니다. 우리의 하루는 종종 분주하게 시작되지만, 우리의 영혼이 하나님을 향해 “내 영혼아 여호와를 송축하라”라고 말할 때 하루의 방향이 달라집니다. 하나님을 기억하는 순간 우리의 시선은 문제에서 하나님께로 옮겨지고, 우리의 마음은 두려움에서 감사로 바뀌게 됩니다.

그러므로 이 아침에 잠시 멈추어 하나님이 우리에게 베푸신 은혜를 떠올려 보기를 바랍니다. 우리의 삶 속에는 이미 많은 은혜가 있습니다. 우리가 살아 있다는 것, 오늘 하루를 다시 시작할 수 있다는 것, 그리고 하나님이 여전히 우리와 함께하신다는 사실이 바로 하나님의 은택입니다. 우리의 영혼이 그 은혜를 기억할 때, 우리는 다시 하나님을 찬양하게 됩니다. 오늘 하루도 그 하나님의 인자와 긍휼 속에서 살아가는 하루가 되기를 바랍니다.

“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” (Psalm 103:2)

Psalm 103 begins with David speaking to his own soul. “Praise the Lord, my soul.” One of the common struggles in our faith is not that God is absent, but that we forget the grace God has already given to us. That is why David commands his own soul to praise the Lord while also reminding himself, “Do not forget all His benefits.” Faith does not begin merely with emotion; it begins with remembering. When we remember what God has done, our hearts are drawn back to Him again.

David then begins to recall the many blessings of God one by one. God forgives all our sins, heals all our diseases, and redeems our lives from destruction. He crowns our lives with love and compassion and satisfies us with good things. As David slowly remembers the works of God, he turns his soul back toward the Lord. Our mornings can begin in the same way.

When we start the day, it is easy to think first about the tasks ahead of us and the worries we carry. But Psalm 103 teaches us a different way to begin the day. Before thinking about what we must do today, we are invited to remember what God has already done for us.

Psalm 103 also reveals the heart of God. It says, “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.” God is not a distant God who ignores our weakness. Rather, He knows our weakness and remembers that we are formed from dust. Our faith therefore does not depend on how strong we are, but on how merciful God is. Even when we are weak, God does not abandon us. Like a loving father embracing his children, God holds us with compassion.

This morning Psalm 103 quietly asks us a question: What is our soul looking at today? Is it focused on worry and anxiety, or is it remembering the grace that God has already given? Our days often begin in a rush, but when our soul says, “Praise the Lord, my soul,” the direction of the day begins to change. When we remember God, our focus shifts from problems to His presence, and our hearts move from fear to gratitude.

Therefore, take a moment this morning to remember the grace God has given you. Our lives are already filled with many blessings. The fact that we are alive today, that we are given another day to begin again, and that God is still with us—these are all gifts of His grace. When our soul remembers these blessings, we are once again able to praise the Lord. May today be a day lived in the steadfast love and compassion of God.

2. Recently, several people have contacted us expressing interest in purchasing the land behind the church. Please pray that the church will respond with wisdom and discernment, and that we may clearly follow God’s guidance. There have also been some inquiries regarding the Oakland building, though nothing specific has developed yet. Please continue to pray for this as well.

3. Also, today there is a baseball game between Korea and the Dominican Republic. It appears the game will begin at 3:30 PM Pacific Time. Let’s cheer for Korea—Go Korea!
