“나 만군의 주가 말한다. 넷째 달의 금식일과, 다섯째 달의 금식일과, 일곱째 달의 금식일과, 열째 달의 금식일이 바뀌어서, 유다 백성에게 기쁘고 즐겁고 유쾌한 절기가 될 것이다. 너희는 마땅히 성실을 사랑하고, 평화를 사랑해야 한다. (스가랴 8:19)

시차의 영향으로 아침에 알람을 끄고는 잠들었는데 함께간 목사님들이 방문을 두드려 깨워주셨습니다. 문을 열었더니 감리사님, 선배목사님들이 저를 챙기러(?!)오셨습니다. 송구한 마음이 눈썹이 휘날리듯 준비하고 내려가서 간신히 시간에 맞춰 첫 시간을 함께하고 있습니다.

짧은 시간의 송구함과 이런 저런 생각을 하며 도착했는데, 어제 들은 강연중에 몇가지 기억의 남는것들이 마음속에서 계속 반복해서 송구함을 밀어내고 사역에 대한 기대와 이해가 앞서갑니다.

어제 만난 강사 목사님은 하나님으로 부터 듣기, 교회로부터 듣기, 이웃으로 부터 듣기라는 이름을 사역하는 교회를 섬기고 있습니다. 이 섬김의 방향은 "듣는 것" 여기서 가장 중요한 것이 있는게 아니라 이 세가지 듣기가 골고루 균형있게 있어야 교회를 건강하게 세울 수 있다는 말에 동의했습니다.

한국에 방문했을때 예전에 영성일기 세미나를 진행했던 팀들과 교제를 했습니다. 10년전에 했던 일이라 그때는 별로 매력적이지 않았는데, 10년이 지난 지금, 영성일기를 교인들과 함께 쓰면 좋겠다는 생각이 들었습니다. 저의 고민은 매주일 예배 단 한번의 예배를 위해 힘을 쓰는 교회가 주중에 어떻게 교인들과 깊이 교제하고 신앙을 점검할 수 있는가에 있습니다.

오늘 아침 설교도 어디가서든 빛으로 살아라는 메시지는 강력하게 와닿습니다.

우리는 1년에 52번 만나고 52번의 만남을 통해 깊은 하나님과의 교제를 이어갑니다. 그리고 여기서 더 큰 기대는 우리의 신앙이 성장하고, 교회가 성장하기를 기대합니다. 그 기대의 마음은 있지만, 이를 위해 구체적인 실천과 성실한 주님과 동행을 고민해야합니다. 쉽지 않죠. 쉽지 않습니다. 그런데 우리는 너무 쉽게 그 시간을 보내고 오늘을 마주합니다.

아침에 분주하게 저를 깨워 자리로 이끌어간 선배목사님들의 고마음을 담아 저도 이런 깨움과 이끌어감을 통해 성도들을 깨우고 바로 그 자리로 인도해야겠다는 마음으로 오늘 하루 시작합니다.

오늘 읽은 스가랴본문은 하나님께서 예루살렘과 시온을 회복시키시고, 모든 민족이 하나님께 나아오게 하시겠다는 약속의 말씀에 대한 내용입니다. 스가랴의 비전은 크고 놀라웠으며 당시 현실에는 과연 그런 일이 일어날까? 싶은 상황에서 선포된 말씀입니다. 완벽하게 눈에 드러나서 일어날 수 있는 일을 쫒아가는 것은 누군가의 불가능과 막막함을 뚫고 간절한 기도와 헌신으로 마침내 드러난 것임을 기억해야합니다.

주중에 하나님과 깊은 교제를 위해 무엇을 하시나요?

1. 어제 오클랜드빌딩에 대한 모든 소송을 취하하겠다는 합의안이 왔습니다. 임원들의 투표로 기꺼이 합의안에 동의하고 다시 교회빌딩을 마켓에 내놓고 매각에 들어갈 수 있게되었습니다. 수고해주신 변호사와 로펌에 감사드리고 이를 위해 기도해주신 모든 분들께 감사드립니다.

2. 열린교회가 더욱 성숙하게 그리고 모든 부서가 일치된 마음으로 하나님께 나아가도록 기도해주세요.

Zechariah 8:19

"This is what the Lord Almighty says: The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh, and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for the people of Judah. Therefore, love truth and peace." (Zechariah 8:19)

This morning, confused by the time difference, I turned off my alarm and fell back asleep. Thankfully, the pastors traveling with me kindly knocked on my door to wake me. When I opened it, there stood my district superintendent and senior pastors—they had come to make sure I hadn't overslept!

Feeling embarrassed, I hurriedly got ready and rushed to make it to the first session just in time.

Even as I arrived, still carrying that embarrassment and the fog of early morning, my mind kept returning to yesterday's lecture—slowly replacing my awkwardness with renewed anticipation and understanding for ministry.

Yesterday's speaker pastors a church whose ministry theme is "Listening to God, Listening to the Church, Listening to the Neighbor." He emphasized that the key is not choosing one over the others, but maintaining balance among all three. Only then, he said, can a church be built in a healthy way—and I completely agreed.

When I visited Korea, I reconnected with a team I had worked with about ten years ago on a "Spiritual Journal" seminar. At the time, I didn't find the concept particularly compelling. But now, a decade later, I find myself thinking it would be wonderful to write spiritual journals together with my congregation.

My ongoing question is this: How can a church that gathers only once a week for Sunday worship build deep fellowship and nurture the faith of its members throughout the week?

This morning's sermon also resonated deeply with me—the message was "Live as the light wherever you go."

We meet 52 times a year, and through these 52 gatherings, we continue in deep communion with God. With each meeting, we hope for spiritual growth—for our faith to mature and our church to flourish. But hope alone is not enough. We need concrete practices and sincere companionship with the Lord to make it real. It's not easy—not at all. Yet too often, we let time slip by and face each new day without intentionality.

This morning, as I was awakened and led by those senior pastors, I was reminded of what it means to awaken and guide others. So today, I begin my day with a renewed desire to wake up the saints and lead them to their place—the place where God calls them to be.

Today's passage from Zechariah speaks of God's promise to restore Jerusalem and Zion, and of a time when all nations will come to seek the Lord. Zechariah's vision was vast and astonishing—declared in a moment when the reality around him made such hope seem almost impossible.

We must remember that what appears impossible or beyond reach often becomes visible only through the earnest prayers and faithful devotion of those who refuse to give up. The things that are now clear and tangible were once born out of someone's persistence, struggle, and steadfast faith in God's promise.

Intercessory Prayer

1. Yesterday, we received a settlement offer to dismiss all lawsuits regarding the Oakland building. With the approval of our church leaders, we gladly accepted the agreement, which allows us to relist the property and move forward with its sale.

2. We give heartfelt thanks to our attorney and law firm for their diligent work, and to everyone who prayed for this process.

3. Please continue to pray that Yeolin Church will grow in maturity, and that every ministry and department will move forward together with one united heart toward God.
