16주님께서 또 나에게 말씀하셨다. “사람아, 내가 예루살렘에서 사람들이 의지하는 빵을 끊어 버리겠다. 그들이 빵을 달아서 걱정에 싸인 채 먹고, 물을 되어서 벌벌 떨며 마실 것이다. 17그들은 빵과 물이 부족하여 누구나 절망에 빠질 것이며, 마침내 자기들의 죄악 속에서 말라 죽을 것이다.” (에스겔 4:16-17)

요즘, 부쩍 늦게자는 버릇이 생겼습니다. 하루를 잘 마무리하려고 이것저것 신경쓰다보면 시간이 왜이리 빨리 지나가는지, 어쩌면 하루가 지나는 것을 붙들고 싶은 마음에 이런 버릇이 생기지 않았나 싶을 정도로 하루는 정말 화살처럼 지나가고 일주일이 하루처럼 느껴지는 시간을 보내고 있습니다.

에스겔은 이미 지나버린 시간을 뒤쫓는 시간을 보내고 있습니다. 이미 희망이 말라버린 자리에서 다시 한번 시간을 뒤로 돌려 어떤 일이 있었는지를 돌이켜 보고, 앞으로 어떻게 살아야하는가에 대핸 말씀을 받고 있습니다. 이런 상황에서 에스겔의 선택은 찾을 수 없는 희망속에서 발견한 하나님의 말씀을 붙드는 것이었을 것입니다.

우리들에게 삶은 늘 분주함이라는 가면을 쓰고 찾아옵니다. 바쁘다는것이 입에 베어 있고, 왜이렇게 시간이 빠르냐는 탄식이 어디서든 들립니다. 어제는 아들이 시간이 빠르다! 내가 곧 대학생이 되다니!라는 말에 아직 그럴 나이가 아니다라고 이야기한것도 또 하나의 시간에 대해 입혀놓은 옷같다는 생각이 들었습니다.

이런 시간에 우리들이 마주하는 갑작스러운 것은 그날이 올까 싶은 순간과 맞닿는 시간 앞에 서있다는 것 그러다보면 또 쫓기듯 살아가는 것 같은 느낌..

오늘 에스겔서 본문을 읽으면서 시간에 쫓기고 이미 일어난 일에 묶여지내는 것보다, 시간을 내편으로 만들어야겠다는 생각이 들었습니다. 우리에게 주어진 시간을 모두에게 공평합니다. 그리고 해야할일도 거의 비슷합니다. 삶을 살아내는데 완전히 다른것은 어떤 방향으로 살아가냐?에 따라 그 질은 차이가 있을 것입니다.

시간이 빠르게 지나간다가 아니라, 시간이 우리를 완성시키고 있다는 생각, 시간이 우리를 새로운 자리에 올려놓고 있다는 기대, 그 시간의 파도를 타고 과연 가능할까? 싶은 것을 곧 경험하게 되는 경이로움.

우리들에게 주어진 스페셜웨폰은 이 시간을 붙들고 바른 방향으로 이끌어갈 "기도"가 있습니다. 잘 기억하시고, 시간의 파도를 타고 성숙의 바다로 함께 가리를 바랍니다.

The Lord said to me further, “Son of man, I will break the supply of bread in Jerusalem. They shall eat bread by weight and with anxiety, and they shall drink water by measure and in dismay. Because bread and water will be scarce, everyone will be filled with despair, and they will waste away in their sin.”(Ezekiel 4:16–17)

Lately, I’ve developed the habit of going to bed late. As I try to wrap up the day well and take care of this and that, I wonder why time seems to fly so quickly. Perhaps this habit comes from a desire to somehow hold onto each passing day. Time flies like an arrow, and weeks feel like days.

Ezekiel, too, is spending time chasing after the past. In a place where hope has already dried up, he turns back time to reflect on what has happened and listens for God’s word about how to live moving forward. In such a situation, Ezekiel's choice was to hold onto the word of God—a word discovered in a place where hope could not be found.

Life often approaches us wearing the mask of busyness. The phrase “I’m so busy” has become second nature, and sighs about how fast time passes can be heard everywhere. Just yesterday, my son said, “Time goes by so fast! I’m about to be in college!” I responded, “You’re not quite there yet,” but even that felt like another layer of clothing we've dressed time in.

And in this fast-moving life, the unexpected moments we face are often those when we suddenly find ourselves standing at the edge of the day we thought would never come. Then, we end up living as if being chased.

Reading today’s passage from Ezekiel, I felt that rather than being chased by time or bound to what has already happened, we need to make time our ally. The time given to us is the same for everyone. The tasks before us are also largely similar. What truly makes the difference in life is the direction we choose. That is what shapes the quality of our lives.

Instead of thinking “Time is passing so fast,” what if we believed that time is shaping us, that time is lifting us to new places? If we ride the wave of time, we will come to witness the wonder of doing what once felt impossible.

The special weapon we’ve been given is prayer—a way to hold onto time and guide it in the right direction. Remember this well, and let’s ride the waves of time together toward the ocean of maturity.
