그러나 그가 찔린 것은 우리의 허물 때문이고, 그가 상처를 받은 것은 우리의 악함 때문이다. 그가 징계를 받음으로써 우리가 평화를 누리고, 그가 매를 맞음으로써 우리의 병이 나았다. (이사야 53:5)

이사야 53장은 성경에서 가장 깊은 고난의 신비를 보여주는 말씀입니다. 이 말씀은 단순히 한 사람이 고난을 겪는 이야기가 아니라, 다른 사람을 위해 대신 고난을 짊어지는 사랑에 대한 이야기입니다.

이사야는 말합니다. 그는 사람들에게 멸시를 받고 버림을 받았으며, 슬픔과 고통을 아는 사람이었습니다. 사람들은 그의 고난을 보며 하나님께 벌을 받은 것이라고 생각했습니다. 그러나 진실은 전혀 달랐습니다.

"그의 고난은 우리의 것이었습니다."

우리가 져야 할 죄의 무게, 우리가 감당해야 할 상처와 심판을 그가 대신 짊어졌습니다. 그래서 성경은 놀라운 역설을 말합니다. "그가 상처를 입었기에 우리가 나음을 얻고, 그가 징계를 받았기에 우리가 평화를 얻었다"는 것입니다. 우리는 종종 인생의 어려움 속에서 “왜 이런 일이 일어났을까?”라고 묻습니다. 그러나 십자가의 이야기는 우리에게 다른 질문을 던집니다. “누군가 나를 위해 이미 그 고통을 짊어졌다면, 나는 이제 어떻게 살아야 할까?”

이사야는 인간의 모습을 이렇게 묘사합니다. “우리는 다 양 같아서 그릇 행하여 각기 제 길로 갔다.” (53:6)

양은 길을 잃기 쉬운 동물입니다. 앞에 있는 다른 양의 엉덩이만 보일 정도로 시력이 좋지 않다고 합니다. 이렇다 보니, 방향을 잃고 헤매다가 결국 위험에 빠집니다. 우리의 삶도 그렇습니다. 우리는 종종 하나님을 떠나 각자 자기 길을 선택하며 살아갑니다.

그럼에도 하나님은 우리를 포기하지 않으셨습니다. 하나님은 우리의 죄를 한 사람에게 담당시키셨습니다. 바로 예수 그리스도입니다. 이 아침, 우리는 이 말씀 앞에서 한 가지를 기억합니다. 우리의 평화는 우리의 능력에서 온 것이 아니라, 누군가의 희생에서 온 것입니다. 그래서 신앙은 단순히 더 잘 사는 기술이 아니라, 그 사랑을 기억하며 살아가는 삶입니다.

1. 어제, 오린다, 모라가, 라피엣 지역에 자페아 부모들의 모임에서 연략이 왔습니다. 교회에 공간을 사용하고 싶고, 장소를 간절히 찾는 중이라고 합니다. 다음주 화요일에 만나서 이야기하고 교회를 둘러보기로 했습니다. 프랑어학교도 내일 교회를 둘러본다고 합니다. 교회가 지역사회에 좋은 나눔을 할 수 있는 것은 좋은 것 같습니다.

2. 전쟁이 계속 지속될것 같습니다. 어려가지 우려의 사인들이 흘러나오고 있는데, 속히 전쟁이 끝나기를 바라는 마음뿐입니다. 이번 전쟁은 자칫 다른 나라들까지 엮이게 되면 큰 전쟁으로 번질 수 있습니다. 위해서 기도해주세요.

But he was pierced for our transgressions,he was crushed for our iniquities;the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,and by his wounds we are healed.(Isaiah 53:5)

Isaiah 53 reveals one of the deepest mysteries of suffering in the Bible. This passage is not simply the story of one person enduring pain. Rather, it is the story of a love that willingly bears suffering on behalf of others.

Isaiah tells us that he was despised and rejected by people, a man familiar with sorrow and suffering. When people saw his pain, they assumed that he was being punished by God. But the truth was completely different.

His suffering was ours.

The weight of sin that we should have carried, the wounds and judgment that we deserved—he bore them in our place. Because of this, the Bible declares a profound paradox: through his wounds we are healed, and through his punishment we receive peace.

When we face hardships in life, we often ask, “Why is this happening?” Yet the story of the cross asks us a different question:“If someone has already carried that suffering for me, how should I now live?”

Isaiah describes humanity in this way:

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to our own way.” (53:6)

Sheep are animals that easily lose their way. Their eyesight is not very strong, and they often see little more than the sheep directly in front of them. Because of this, they wander off, lose their direction, and eventually fall into danger.

Our lives can be the same. We often turn away from God and choose our own paths.

Yet God did not abandon us.

Instead, God placed our sins upon one person—Jesus Christ.

This morning we remember one important truth: the peace we enjoy does not come from our own strength, but from someone else’s sacrifice.

Faith, therefore, is not simply a way to live better.It is a life that remembers and responds to that love.

Intercessory Prayer

1. Yesterday, I received a message from a group of parents of children with autism in the Orinda, Moraga, and Lafayette area. They are looking for a place to gather and asked if they might be able to use space at our church. They are urgently searching for a location. We plan to meet next Tuesday to talk and to give them a tour of the church. A French school will also be visiting the church tomorrow to look at the space. It seems like a good opportunity for our church to share what we have with the local community.

2. It also appears that the war may continue for some time. Various concerning signs are emerging, and our only hope is that the war will come to an end soon. If this conflict draws other countries into it, it could expand into a much larger war. Please pray for peace.
