사람이 자기 친구를 위하여 자기 목숨을 내놓는 것보다 더 큰 사랑은 없다. (요한복음 15:13)

하나님께서 우리를 사랑하시는 방식은 단순한 감정이나 말에 머물지 않습니다. 예수님은 “아버지께서 나를 사랑하신 것 같이 나도 너희를 사랑하였다”고 말씀하시며, 그 사랑 안에 거하라고 초대하십니다. 여기서 ‘거한다’는 것은 잠시 머무는 것이 아니라, 그 사랑을 삶의 근거로 삼고 지속적으로 살아가는 것을 의미합니다.

우리는 종종 하나님의 사랑을 조건적으로 받아들이거나, 우리의 상태에 따라 그 사랑을 의심하지만, 예수님은 이미 변하지 않는 사랑으로 우리를 붙들고 계십니다. 그리고 그 사랑 안에 거하는 삶은 자연스럽게 순종으로 이어집니다. 순종은 억지로 따르는 의무가 아니라, 사랑받는 자로서 반응하는 삶의 태도입니다.

예수님은 또한 이 사랑이 기쁨으로 이어진다고 말씀하십니다. 세상이 주는 기쁨은 상황에 따라 흔들리지만, 주님 안에 거하는 자가 누리는 기쁨은 그 근원이 하나님께 있기 때문에 쉽게 사라지지 않습니다. 그리고 그 기쁨은 우리 안에만 머무르지 않고, 다른 사람을 향한 사랑으로 흘러갑니다. “서로 사랑하라”는 명령은 단순한 윤리적 요청이 아니라, 우리가 받은 사랑의 본질적인 표현입니다. 우리가 받은 사랑이 진짜라면, 그것은 반드시 다른 사람을 향해 흘러가게 되어 있습니다.

마지막으로 예수님은 사랑의 가장 극적인 모습을 보여주십니다. 친구를 위해 자신의 생명을 내어주는 사랑, 그것이 바로 십자가의 사랑입니다. 이 말씀은 단지 감동적인 문장이 아니라, 예수님께서 실제로 이루신 사건을 가리킵니다. 그리고 그 사랑은 오늘 우리에게도 동일하게 적용됩니다. 우리는 모두 그 사랑을 받은 사람들입니다.

그렇다면 이제 우리의 삶은 질문을 받습니다. 나는 이 사랑 안에 거하고 있는가, 그리고 그 사랑을 누구에게 흘려보내고 있는가. 문득 설교시간이나 말씀을 읽을때에만 떠오를 수 있겠다는 생각이 듭니다. 늘 이 사랑을 기억하고 그 안에 있음을 고백하려고 하는 것, 이것을 신앙생활이라고 이야기할 수 있을것 같습니다.

더운 날씨 몇일 잠을 설쳤습니다. 분주함으로 쉼이 필요한 분들도 비슷하지 않을까? 하는 생각이 들었습니다. 건강조심하시고, 주일에 다시한번 주님의 사랑안에 있음을 경험하는 거룩한 시간에 함께 동행하고 싶습니다.

묵상

우리가 생각할 수 있는 가장 큰 사랑은 십자가 사랑입니다.

1. 토요일에 여선교회에서 김치를 담근다고 합니다. 김치냉장고 구입 기념으로 모여서 배추를 사서 김치를 담근다고 하니, 손이 많이 필요하겠죠. 특히 남자들의 손이 필요할것같아요

2. 이란 전쟁이 장기전으로 돌입하는 추세입니다. 기름값은 치솟고 복잡한 정세에 어디에 마음을 두어야할지 모릅니다. 긍휼함으로 평화가 속히 자리하도록 기도해주세요.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)

The way God loves us is not limited to mere feelings or words. Jesus says, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you,” and invites us to abide in that love. To “abide” here does not mean to stay temporarily, but to make His love the very foundation of our lives and to continue living in it. We often accept God’s love conditionally or doubt it depending on our circumstances, but Jesus already holds us firmly with an unchanging love. And a life that abides in that love naturally leads to obedience. Obedience is not a forced duty, but the response of one who is loved.

Jesus also tells us that this love leads to joy. The joy the world offers is easily shaken by circumstances, but the joy found in abiding in the Lord does not easily fade, because its source is God. And this joy does not remain within us—it flows outward as love toward others. The command, “Love one another,” is not merely an ethical instruction, but the essential expression of the love we have received. If the love we have received is real, it will inevitably flow toward others.

Finally, Jesus shows us the most profound expression of love: laying down one’s life for a friend. This is the love of the cross. These words are not just a moving statement, but point to what Jesus actually accomplished. And that love applies to us today just the same. We are all people who have received this love.

Now our lives are faced with a question: Am I abiding in this love, and to whom am I allowing this love to flow? It can be easy to think about this only during a sermon or while reading Scripture. But perhaps the life of faith is this—continually remembering this love and confessing that we are abiding in it.

These past few days of warm weather have made it difficult to sleep. I wonder if others are also feeling the need for rest in the midst of busyness. Please take care of your health, and I hope we can walk together again on Sunday in a sacred time of experiencing the Lord’s love.

Reflection

The greatest love we can imagine is the love of the cross.

Intercessory Prayer

1. This Saturday, the Women’s Mission group will be making kimchi together. They are gathering to prepare it as a way to celebrate the purchase of a kimchi refrigerator, and they will be buying cabbages and making kimchi together. It will require many helping hands—especially from the men. Please keep this in your prayers and consider joining if you are available.

2. The conflict involving Iran appears to be entering a prolonged phase. Oil prices are rising, and the situation is becoming increasingly complex, making it difficult to know where to place our hearts. Please pray that, through God’s mercy, peace may come quickly.
