Our church garden is overflowing with tomatoes! 🍅🍅🍅 / 교회 텃밭에 토마토가 가득 열렸어오~!

"그러므로 여러분은 사랑을 받는 자녀답게, 하나님을 본받는 사람이 되십시오." (엡 5:1)

아이들이 부모를 닮습니다. 가끔 자식이 답답해서 속이 상하면, 나 닮아 그런가 보다 그리 생각합니다. 그래야 저도 마음이 편해지는 것을 알게되었습니다. 누구를 탓하겠어...

이런 이야기는 익숙하죠, 그런데 바울은 이 내용을 하나님의 자녀이니 하나님을 본받아 살아야한다고 이야기합니다. 자식의 관점에서 부모를 이해하는 거죠 이걸 하나님과 인간의 관계에 연결시킵니다. 경험적이고, 깊이 이해할 수 있는 내용으로 하나님과 그리스도인의 관계를 설명합니다.

방학을 마치고 저희 집에 차를 맡기고 간 청년 차를 찾으러 왔는데, 베터리가 방전되었습니다. 점퍼선을 연결해도 안되서 베터리를 새로 사서 교체하려했는데 이번에는 공구가 없습니다. 아이들 방에 혹시나 하고 뒤졌는데, 아이들이 성격에 따라 정리한 물건이 눈에 들어옵니다. 아빠 닮은 것, 엄마닮은 것, 어떤 것에는 할머니 닮은것도 느껴집니다.

닮음은 삶에서 깊이 새겨지듯 발견되어지는 것 같습니다.

네팔에 큰 홍수가 났습니다. 지진으로 빙하가 무너져 내리면서 예상치 못한 홍수라 피해자가 많다고 합니다. 산줄기 협곡을 따라 내려오다보니, 마을이 통째로 쓸려내려가고, 한국기업 파견 근로자들도 실종상태라고 합니다. 선교사님의 문자에 함께 예배를 보던 교우라는 이야기에 현지 상황이 간접적으로 느껴졌습니다. 구조는 더디고 연락도 더디고 답답함이 느껴졌습니다. 문제는 물이 불어난 홍수가 아니라 빙하가(눈이 녹아서)만들어진 홍수라 계속해서 아래로 치고 내려오니까, 아무래도 피해는 계속 늘어날것 같다고 합니다. 작년에 후원한 진아학교도 그렇고 선교사님의 사역지도 그렇고 대피령에 자리를 피했고, 진정되기만을 기다린다고 합니다.

문자를 마치고, 우리와 연결된 가느다랗고 느슨한 연결에도 이런 걱정과 기도가 절실해지는 것을 느끼면서 우리들이 사로 연결된것도 생각보다 더 큰 삶의 한부분이라는 생각이 들었습니다. 우리는 하나님을 닮은 자녀이기 때문입니다.

우리안에도 이런 연결과 기도와 관심으로 함께할 분들이 많이 있습니다. 그냥 해야해서 그런것이 아니라 우리가 하나님을 닮은 자녀이기때문입니다. 이것을 기억하는 하루가 되시기를 바랍니다.

"Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children." (Eph 5:1)

Children resemble their parents. Sometimes, when my own child frustrates me and my heart aches, I tell myself, "Well, they probably got it from me." I've come to realize that only when I think this way does my own heart find peace. After all, who else is there to blame...

This is a familiar story, isn't it? And yet Paul takes this very idea and tells us that, because we are God's children, we ought to live by imitating God. It is understanding a parent from a child's point of view — and he connects that to the relationship between God and us. He explains the relationship between God and the Christian through something we can feel from experience and understand deeply.

A young adult who had left his car at our house over the school break came to pick it up, and the battery was dead. Even the jumper cables wouldn't work, so I decided to buy a new battery and replace it myself — but this time I had no tools. On the off chance, I rummaged through my kids' rooms, and my eyes fell on the things they had each arranged in their own way, according to their own personalities. In some I could see their father; in some, their mother; and in a few, I could even sense their grandmother.

Resemblance, it seems, is something we come to discover as it is quietly and deeply etched into our lives.

A great flood has struck Nepal. Because a glacier gave way after an earthquake, the flooding came without warning, and they say the casualties are many. As the water poured down through the mountain gorges, entire villages were swept away, and workers dispatched by Korean companies are reported missing. When the missionary's text mentioned that one of them had been a fellow worshiper in their congregation, the situation on the ground reached me, even from far away. Rescue is slow, communication is slow, and I felt the helplessness of it. The real problem is that this is not a flood from rising rainwater but one born of a glacier — of melting snow — so it keeps surging downward, and it seems the damage will only continue to grow. Jina School, which we supported last year, and the missionary's ministry site as well — both fled under evacuation orders, and now they can only wait for things to settle.

When the texting was over, I felt how even a thin and loose thread of connection to us can make such worry and prayer feel urgent, and it struck me that the way we are bound to one another is a far larger part of life than we imagine. For we are children who resemble God.

Among us, too, there are many who will stand together in this same connection, prayer, and care — not merely because we must, but because we are children who resemble God. May today be a day in which we remember this.
