“우리가 아직 연약할 때에, 그리스도께서 정하신 때에 경건하지 않은 사람들을 위하여 죽으셨습니다.” (롬 5:6)

바울은 로마서 5장에서 매우 놀라운 복음의 진리를 이야기합니다. 그것은 우리가 하나님을 찾기 전에 하나님이 먼저 우리를 찾아오셨다는 사실입니다.

바울은 인간의 상태를 세 가지로 설명합니다.우리는 연약한 사람들이었고, 경건하지 않은 사람들이었으며, 죄인이었고, 심지어 하나님의 원수였습니다. 이것은 인간의 영적인 현실을 매우 솔직하게 보여 줍니다.

보통 우리는 누군가가 선하거나 가치가 있을 때 사랑하려 합니다. 그러나 하나님은 전혀 다른 방식으로 사랑하셨습니다. 우리가 하나님께 돌아오기 전, 우리가 아직 죄 가운데 있을 때, 그리스도께서 우리를 위해 죽으셨습니다.

바울은 말합니다.“의인을 위해 죽는 사람도 드물고, 선인을 위해서는 용감하게 죽을 수도 있지만, 하나님은 우리가 아직 죄인이었을 때에 우리를 위해 그리스도께서 죽으심으로 우리에 대한 사랑을 확증하셨다.” (롬 5:7–8)

십자가는 하나님의 사랑이 말이 아니라 행동으로 나타난 사건입니다. 하나님은 우리를 사랑한다고 말씀만 하신 것이 아니라, 자신의 아들을 내어주심으로 그 사랑을 보여 주셨습니다.

그래서 바울은 더 큰 확신을 말합니다.그리스도의 피로 우리가 의롭다 하심을 받았다면, 이제 우리는 하나님의 진노에서 구원을 받을 것입니다. 우리가 하나님과 원수 되었을 때에도 화목하게 하셨다면, 이제 그리스도께서 살아 계신 지금 우리는 더욱 구원을 누리게 될 것입니다.

여기서 복음의 깊은 역설이 드러납니다.우리는 하나님을 향해 올라가서 구원을 얻은 것이 아니라, 하나님이 우리에게 내려오셔서 구원을 이루셨습니다.

그래서 우리의 신앙은 두려움이 아니라 기쁨으로 가득합니다.바울은 마지막에 이렇게 말합니다.

“우리가 이제 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님 안에서 즐거워합니다.” (롬 5:11)

구원은 단순히 죄 사함을 받는 것에서 끝나지 않습니다.구원은 하나님과의 관계가 회복되는 것, 그리고 하나님 안에서 기뻐하는 삶입니다.

오늘 하루를 시작하면서 이 사실을 기억하십시오.하나님은 우리가 완전해서 사랑하신 것이 아니라, 우리가 연약할 때 먼저 사랑하셨습니다.

그래서 우리는 두려움이 아니라 감사로 살아갑니다.우리는 부족하지만, 이미 사랑받는 사람들입니다.

"You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly." (Romans 5:6)

In Romans 5, the Apostle Paul speaks of a truly remarkable gospel truth: that before we ever sought God, God first came searching for us. Paul describes the human condition in three distinct ways—we were powerless, ungodly, sinners, and even enemies of God. This provides a very honest look at our spiritual reality. Usually, we tend to love someone only when they are good or worthy. However, God loved us in a completely different way. Before we returned to Him, while we were still in the midst of our sins, Christ died for us.

Paul writes, "Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:7–8). The Cross is an event where God’s love was manifested not just in words, but in action. God did not merely say He loved us; He proved that love by giving His own Son.

Therefore, Paul speaks with even greater confidence. If we have been justified by Christ's blood, we shall certainly be saved from God's wrath. If He reconciled us when we were still His enemies, how much more shall we enjoy full salvation now that Christ is alive? Here lies the profound paradox of the Gospel: we did not climb up to God to obtain salvation; rather, God came down to us to accomplish it.

Thus, our faith is filled with joy instead of fear. Paul concludes by saying, "We also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation" (Romans 5:11). Salvation is more than just the forgiveness of sins; it is the restoration of our relationship with God and a life of rejoicing in Him. As you begin your day, remember this: God did not love us because we were perfect, but He loved us first while we were still weak. We live not in fear, but in gratitude, knowing that though we are imperfect, we are already deeply loved.
