에스겔 14 : 12~23, 2025.08.08 (금), "Ezekiel 14:12-23, 2025.08.08 (Friday)"

비록 그 나라 가운데 노아와 다니엘과 욥, 이 세 사람이 있다 하더라도, 그 세 사람은 자신의 의로 말미암아 자신의 목숨만 겨우 건질 것이다. 나 주 하나님의 말이다. (에스겔 14:14)

이제 곧 개학을 앞둔 아이들에게 방학을 보낸 시간을 붙들고 싶은 마음이 클겁니다. 그시절에 시간은 도적같이 분주함으로 몰아넣고 마지막 남은 시간을 어떻게 해서든 불태워보려는 마음으로 분주함을 기다리며 삶을 분주함으로 몰고갔던것 같습니다.

아이들의 움직이 분주해지니 지켜보는 마음도 분주합니다. 이런 저런 준비를 해야할것 같은데 그것보다는 남은 시간을 가득채워서 친구들과 보내는데 정신이 없습니다. 그렇게 밤을 세우며 만나느라 힘을 쏟았던 친구, 어느 하나 지금은 연락하며 지내지 않는데, 그때는 그게 삶에 가장 중요하게 느껴졌던것 같습니다.

요즘 목사님들과 실행위원회를 모이면 저녁을 먹고 헤어집니다. 분주한 시대에 이야기를 나누는데 끝이 없습니다. 목회이야기, 목사이야기를 하다보면 저녁 때가 되고, 멀리서 온분들이 트래픽을 피하기 위해서라도 긴 시간 이야기가 그리 손해라는 생각이 들지 않습니다.

예전 친구들과 분주하게 보냈던 시간을 마주하듯 긴 시간 나눈 이야기속에서 막연함에 대한 두려움부터 기대까지 많은 이야기속에 각자의 목회의 자리의 고민을 나누는 것은 귀하게 들립니다.

가장 암울한 시기에 에스겔의 예언은 반복적인 이야기로 가득하지만, 그 이야기속을 관통하는 일관됨이 있습니다. 심판은 피할수 없지만, 하나님은 절대로 심판을 휘두르는 분이 아니라, 의로움으로 판단하는 것이 곧 심판이라는 것입니다.

심판에 대한 선입과 죄를 징계한다는 생각은 마치 하나님의 절대적인 힘으로 이스라엘을 궁지로 몰아넣는 것처럼 느껴지지만 하나님의 심판의 손길은 공의와 정의로운 판단으로 절대로 의인의 헌신을 모른척하지 않는다는 것입니다. 즉 심판의 이야기지만, 의인을 통해 하나님이 새로운 희망을 남기신다는 것이 이런 예언서의 주제라는 것을 기억해야합니다.

목회의 현장에서 마주하는 현실은 부정적인 수치들이 많습니다. 줄어드는 교인, 좋지 않은 분위기, 그리고 또 줄어드는 재정, 이런 부정적인 분위기를 반전하는 것에 대해 사람들은 이런 저런 생각들을 쏟아놓지만, 그 모든 것을 관통하는 가장 중요한 방법은 "하나님의 공의와 정의"가운데 여전히 실현되고 있는 "의로운 행위"를 통해 회복되어진다는 확신과 믿음이 있어야 합니다.

예언서는 심판의 이야기가 아니라, 그 틈바구니에서 여전히 의로움을 간진하는 의인들, 즉 남은자들을 통해 하나님이 어떻게 회복시키는가를 보여주는 기적의 메시지라는 것을 기억해야합니다. 오늘날, 우리들은 바로 이 기적의 메시지를 쓰기 위해 공동체에 함께하고 있다는 사실을 기억했으면 좋겠습니다.

Ezekiel 14:14"Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign Lord."

As the new school year approaches, parents and children alike may find themselves holding on to the last moments of summer vacation. Time during those days seemed to slip away like a thief, driven by the rush and busyness of life. We often find ourselves anxiously trying to make the most of the remaining time, seeking to fill every moment. In the midst of this rush, I recall friends with whom I spent so much time during those days. Now, none of them are in regular contact, yet back then, those relationships seemed the most important part of life.

Lately, when meeting with pastors and board members, we often share a meal and engage in long discussions. In this busy age, conversations seem to never end. Whether discussing ministry or personal matters, the talks last late into the evening. For those traveling from afar, time spent chatting feels like no wasted time at all. As we revisit those hectic days spent with old friends, the stories are filled with both fears and hopes, each reflecting the deep struggles we face in our own ministries.

In the midst of a challenging time, the prophecies of Ezekiel are filled with repeated warnings, yet there is a consistent theme throughout. Judgment is unavoidable, but God is not one who wields judgment capriciously. Rather, judgment is God's righteous and just response. The idea of judgment and punishment often evokes the image of God's overwhelming power, pushing Israel into despair, but in reality, God's judgment is always fair and righteous, never overlooking the dedication of the righteous. Though this is a prophecy of judgment, we must remember that God offers hope through the righteous—through those who remain faithful.

In ministry, we often face negative realities—declining attendance, a challenging atmosphere, dwindling finances. Many have their own thoughts on how to reverse these trends, but the most important thing to remember is that the key to restoration lies in "righteous acts" rooted in God's "justice and righteousness." This is the way God continues to restore and heal.

The prophetic books are not merely about judgment. In the midst of judgment, they show how God works through the righteous, the faithful remnant, to bring about restoration and healing. We should never forget that we, too, are part of this story today. Our community, through our acts of righteousness, can continue to share this message of restoration.
