Joshua 19:24–51, December 16, 2025 (Tuesday), 여호수아 19 : 24~51, 2025.12.16 (화)

이것이 엘르아살 제사장과 눈의 아들 여호수아와 이스라엘 자손 지파의 족장들이 실로의 회막 문 곧 주님 앞에서 제비를 뽑아서 나눈 유산이다. 이와 같이 하여 땅 나누기를 모두 마쳤다.(여호수아 19:51)

땅을 모두 분배한이후에 여호수아의 기업을 마지막으로 받는 장면이 오늘 구절입니다. 희생적 리더쉽은 여호수아를 통해 어떻게 공동체를 세워가는지를 잘 보여줍니다. 또한 모두에게 공평하게 기업은 분배되었고, 이것을 잘 다루는 것은 분배받은 자들의 책임이라는 이야기로 본문은 가나안 정착 이야기를 마무리합니다.

오늘날로 보면, 주어진 기업을 골고루 나누고 리더쉽들은 이것에 대해 꽤 희생적이라는 이야기로 읽혀질 수 있는 분문입니다. 교회는 생각보다 이런 저런 기대와 생각들이 섞여있습니다. 모두가 똑같을 수 는 없지만 일치를 꿈꾸며 이야기하고 마음을 나눕니다.

12월 이맘때쯤 되면 목회자 수양회를 준비합니다. 12월에 성탄절 연휴를 끼고 매년 계획해오 수련회를 올해는 저와 선택된 임원들이 준비하는데 오고가는 길은 물론이고 3일을 지내면서 나눠야 할 이야기들을 정리하고 있습니다. 방을 배정하고 프로그램을 만들고 늘 변함이 없는 이런 시간속에 특별한 것은 새로 조인한 목회자가 말씀을 전하고 이야기를 하는 기회를 갖는다는 것입니다.

이런 기회를 통해 우리는 서로가 서로를 더 잘 알아가고, 여기서 저희 연회의 한인목회자의 정체성을 나누는 것에 힘을 씁니다. 다들 어색한 분위기를 이겨내고 친해지면 서로에게 좋은 나눔을 이루는 기회가 됩니다.

머릿속에 그려지는 매년 반복되는 행사이지만, 그시간을 통해 한인목회자들이 더 든든히 세워가진다는 기대를 갖게 합니다.

이런 관계가 지속된 것도 잘 살펴보면, 모두가 서로를 조금씩 희생하고 그 자리를 만들기 이해 노력한 헌신이 있었습니다. 제가 기억하기 이전부터 이 수련회가 지금까지 이어온 이유는 그 자리를 통해 우리는 서로 공감하고 마음을 나누고 위로하는 시간이 충분이 가능했기때문이겠죠.

12월 마음을 다해 감사를 표시하는 시간이면서 한해를 잘 보낸것에 대한 감사와 새해에 대한 기대가 우리를 좀더 성숙함으로 이끌어갈 은혜의 시간이 마련되어 있다는 사실을 기억하시고, 누군가의 헌신과 기대와 간절한 기도가 열린교회 공동체를 든든히 세워간다는 사실도 기억하시기 바랍니다.

희생하는 리더쉽은 어떤 것을 기대하는 것일까요? 누군가라면 어떤 분일까요? 여러분들은 이런 희생의 주인공일때가 있었나요?

“These are the inheritances that the priest Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the families of the tribes of the Israelites allotted by lot at Shiloh, at the entrance to the tent of meeting, in the presence of the LORD. So they finished dividing the land.”(Joshua 19:51)

Today’s passage describes the moment when, after all the land had been distributed, Joshua receives his inheritance last.Through Joshua, we see clearly how sacrificial leadership builds a community.The land was distributed fairly to all, but the text concludes the story of Israel’s settlement in Canaan by reminding us that how each person lives with what they have received is their own responsibility.

From today’s perspective, this passage can be read as a story about sharing what has been given equitably and about leaders who embody a deeply sacrificial form of leadership.The church, more than we often realize, is a place where many expectations and thoughts intersect. We cannot all be the same, yet we continue to speak with one another, share our hearts, and pursue unity together.

Around this time each December, we prepare for our pastors’ retreat.Every year, with the Christmas holiday season included, this retreat has been carefully planned. This year, selected officers and I are preparing it together. We are organizing the journey, the three days we will spend together, and the many conversations that need space to be shared. We assign rooms, design the program, and follow a familiar rhythm. One special element, however, is that newly joined pastors are given the opportunity to preach and share their stories.

Through these moments, we come to know one another more deeply, and we intentionally share and reflect on the identity of Korean pastors within our annual conference. Though the atmosphere may feel awkward at first, as we grow closer, it becomes a meaningful space for genuine sharing and connection.

While this is an event that repeats every year and feels familiar, it also carries the hope that Korean pastors are being strengthened and firmly built up through this time together.

When we look closely at how these relationships have been sustained, we realize that they exist because each person has been willing to sacrifice a little and work intentionally to create that shared space. Even before my time, this retreat has continued because it has provided sufficient room for empathy, honest sharing, and mutual encouragement.

As we approach the end of December, a season filled with gratitude, let us remember that this is a time to give thanks for the year we have lived through and to hold hopeful expectations for the year ahead. It is a gracious season that invites us into deeper maturity. Please also remember that someone’s dedication, hope, and earnest prayers are what continue to strengthen the Yeolin Church community.
