Joshua 5:2–15, November 18, 2025 (Tue), 여호수아 5 : 2~15, 2025.11.18 (화)

주님께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. “너희가 이집트에서 받은 수치를, 오늘 내가 없애 버렸다.” 그리하여 그 곳 이름을 오늘까지 길갈이라고 한다.(여호수아 5:9)

구약성경에서 일관된 하나님의 이미지는 "Divine Worrior", 하나님이 전사로서 이스라엘을 앞서가셔서 전쟁에 승리하신다는 것입니다. 모세에 이어 여호수아에게 "하나님의 군대 장관"이 나타납니다. 그리고 같은 서사로 "네 신을 벗어라!"는 말씀으로 여호수아를 준비시킵니다.

"네 신을 벗으라"는 뜻은 지금까지 밟고 살아온 삶의 흔적들을 내려놓고 새롭게 하나님이 이끌어가시는 그 길을 향해 나아가라는 것입니다. 삶이 늘 패턴으로 익숙해지게 루틴을 만들어놓은 이에게 "네 신을 벗으라!"는 뜻은 익숙한것에서 벗어나 이제 하나님과 함께하는 낯선곳으로 향해 가자는 뜻입니다.

여호수아는 이제 정복 전쟁이라는 또다른 레벨의 삶을 마주하고 있습니다. 가나안땅 정착이 그냥 무혈입성이 아니라, 약속하신 땅에 먼저 자리한 자들을 하나 하나 물리쳐야하는 어려운 정착이었습니다. 쉽고 간단한 삶은 없습니다.

어떤분이 지금까지 살아오면서 아무런 고난이 없었다고 이야기합니다. 부럽게 느껴질 수있지만, 삶에서 "신을 벗어본적이 없기" 때문입니다. 우리들의 신을 벗어 그 자리가 거룩하게 되려면, 그냥 되는 것이 아니라, 익숙한 것에서 벗어나 새로운 것을 마무할 용기를 가져야합니다.

모든게 완벽하게 될리 없습니다. 좌충우돌하고 문제는 늘 발생할 수 있습니다. 그 자리로 나아가야 하는 것이 하나님이 앞서가시는 자리입니다.

이 시대의 청년들은 비로소 자신의 삶을 찾아 세상에 한발 내딛습니다. 만족스럽게 시작하는 친구들도 있지만, 더디고 후회하고 다시 시작해야하는 부담감으로 삶이 복잡해졌다고 여기는 경우도 있습니다. 그런데 익숙한 것을 떠난 새로운 것을 시작하는 삶이 편안할리 없습니다. 어디서나 좌충우돌하는 청년들의 삶을 응원하는 이유는 지금이 끝이 아니기때문입니다.

어디 청년만 그렇습니까! 지금 자신의 신을 벗어 거룩한 땅을 만들어내기 위해 삶의 변화에 기꺼이 마주하려고 용기를 가진 모든 분들의 삶이 이와 같을 것입니다. 고군분투! 삶은 늘 이런 노력으로 세워져가고 있다는 사실을 기억하셔야 합니다.

오늘! 비온후 제법 쌀쌀해진 날씨입니다. 어제 집 보일러는 손보고, 미리 틀어놓고 여름에 쌓인 먼지를 털어냈습니다. 히터가 있다고 해서 그 냥 키는 것이 아니라 다듬고 털어내야 다시 사용할 수 있습니다. 이런 작은것들도 그런데 큰 일들은 더 큰 노력이 필요하지 않겠습니까?

오늘 하루! 그럼에도 불구하고 잘 살아내고 있는 자신을 격려하고, 위로하고 용기를 주시는 하루가 되시기를 바랍니다.

1. 열린교회의 성장과 부흥을 위해서 기도해주세요! 노력하고 함께 기도하면 그렇게 이루어질 것입니다. "네 신을 벗어라!" 익숙한 것보다 어색한것을 노력하면 그 일들이 일어납니다.

2. 25일에 "예준"이는 수술을 합니다. 위해서 기도해주시고, 지난주 비가 많이 온 목요일에 "장은영" 자매가 교통사고로 차를 폐차했습니다. 다행히 많이 안다쳤지만 위해서 기도해주세요

The Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away from you the disgrace of Egypt.” And so that place is called Gilgal to this day. (Joshua 5:9)

One of the consistent images of God throughout the Old Testament is the “Divine Warrior.” God goes before Israel as a warrior, fighting on their behalf and granting victory. After Moses, the “Commander of the Lord’s Army” appears to Joshua. And just as in Moses’ story, Joshua hears the same divine command:

“Take off your sandals.”

To “take off your sandals” means to lay down the traces of the life you have walked so far, and step toward the new path that God Himself is leading. For those of us who have built routines and patterns and grown comfortable in them, the command “Take off your sandals!” is an invitation to leave the familiar and enter the unknown—to walk with God into a place we have never been.

Joshua is now facing a new level of life—a life of conquest. Entering Canaan is not a peaceful settlement; it requires driving out those who already occupy the land God promised. There is no such thing as an easy life.

Some people say they have lived without ever facing hardship. That may sound enviable, yet it often means they have never taken off their sandals.For the ground beneath our feet to become holy, we must have the courage to step out of what is familiar and embrace what is new.

Nothing in life becomes perfect all at once. We stumble, struggle, and face constant challenges.But that is exactly where God goes before us.The place God leads is not the place of ease, but the place of obedience.

Today’s young adults are stepping into the world, trying to find their own path in life. Some begin smoothly and confidently; others feel delayed, discouraged, or burdened by having to start again. But beginning something new has never been comfortable. That is why I cheer for the young adults who are navigating their way through uncertainty—because this is not the end, but the beginning.

And it is not only the young.Anyone who is courageously trying to take off their sandals—to make the ground beneath them holy by embracing change—knows the feeling of being caught in a battle. Life is often built through such perseverance, and we must remember that this struggle is part of the journey.

This morning, after the rain, the air has grown noticeably colder. Yesterday I serviced my home heater, cleaned out the dust that had gathered over the summer, and tested it. Even a heater doesn’t work just because we turn it on; it must be cleaned, adjusted, and prepared. If small things require such attention, how much more the larger matters of life?

Today—encourage yourself.Comfort yourself.Give yourself courage.You are living this day faithfully, in spite of everything.

1. Please pray for the growth and revival of Yeolin Church!When we work and pray together, God will surely accomplish it.“Take off your sandals”—when we push ourselves beyond what is comfortable, new things begin to happen.

2. On the 25th, Yejun will undergo surgery. Please pray for him.And last Thursday, during heavy rain, Sister Eunyoung Chang was in a car accident and her car was totaled. Thankfully she was not seriously injured, but please pray for her continued recovery and peace.
