이와 같이, 너희 빛을 사람에게 비추어서, 그들이 너희의 착한 행실을 보고, 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하여라.”(마태복음 5:16)
아침에 이 말씀을 읽으며 우리는 자연스럽게 묻게 됩니다.“나는 지금 어떤 자리에 서 있는가?”
예수님께서 복되다 하신 사람들은, 세상이 부러워하는 자리에 있는 사람들이 아니었습니다.가난한 마음, 애통하는 눈물, 온유한 태도, 의에 대한 갈망은 모두 결핍의 언어입니다. 그러나 예수님은 그 결핍의 자리를 부끄러워하지 않으십니다. 오히려 그곳이 하나님 나라가 시작되는 자리라고 말씀하십니다.
우리는 종종 복을 위에서 찾습니다. 더 안정된 조건, 더 나은 결과, 더 분명한 성공 속에서 하나님의 축복을 확인하려 합니다. 그러나 예수님은 산 위에서 말씀하시면서도, 복의 방향을 아래로 향하게 하십니다. 스스로 충분하다고 말할 수 없는 자리, 하나님 없이는 버틸 수 없는 자리에서 복이 시작됩니다.
그리고 예수님은 그 복을 받은 이들을 세상에서 분리시키지 않으십니다.“너희는 세상의 소금이다.”“너희는 세상의 빛이다.”
소금은 눈에 띄지 않지만 없으면 썩고, 빛은 자신을 드러내기보다 어둠을 밀어냅니다.제자의 삶은 크고 화려해서가 아니라, 조용히 그러나 결정적으로 세상을 살리는 존재로 살아가는 것입니다.
오늘 아침, 우리가 해야 할 질문은 이것일지도 모릅니다.“나는 지금 어디에서 소금으로 살아가고 있는가?”“누군가의 어둠 속에서 작은 빛으로 머물고 있는가?”
하나님 나라의 백성은 세상을 떠나 있는 사람이 아니라, 세상 한가운데서 하나님을 드러내는 사람입니다. 오늘도 우리의 말과 선택, 작은 친절과 인내를 통해 누군가가 하늘에 계신 아버지를 바라보게 되기를 기도합니다.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others,so that they may see your good worksand give glory to your Father in heaven.”(Matthew 5:16)
As we read this passage in the morning, a question naturally arises:“Where am I standing right now?”
The people Jesus calls blessed are not those standing in places the world admires.A poor spirit, mourning tears, a gentle posture, and a hunger for righteousness are all languages of lack. Yet Jesus does not shame these places of deficiency. Rather, he declares that this is where the kingdom of God begins.
We often look for blessing at the top—in more stable circumstances, better outcomes, and clearer success.But even as Jesus speaks from the mountain, he points the direction of blessing downward.Blessing begins in the place where we cannot say we are sufficient on our own,in the place where we cannot endure without God.
And Jesus does not separate those who have received this blessing from the world.“You are the salt of the earth.”“You are the light of the world.”
Salt is unnoticed, yet without it things decay.Light does not seek to display itself; it pushes back the darkness.The life of a disciple is not about being big or impressive,but about living as a quiet—yet decisive—presence that gives life to the world.
This morning, perhaps the question we need to ask is this:“Where am I living as salt right now?”“Am I remaining as a small light in someone’s darkness?”
The people of God’s kingdom are not those who withdraw from the world,but those who reveal God in the midst of it.Today as well, through our words and choices,through small acts of kindness and patience,we pray that someone may come to look toward our Father in heaven.

There is a season of transition in our church.Pastor Seyoung Choi will be offering his farewell this coming Sunday,and the church is seeking a new pastor for the next chapter of ministry.Please pray that the church may be firmly established,entrusting every step of this process to God,and seeking His wisdom in all decisions.
