Zechariah 14:1–8, October 29, 2025 (Wed), 스가랴 14 : 1~8, 2025.10.29 (수)

그 날이 오면, 예루살렘에서 생수가 솟아나서, 절반은 동쪽 바다로, 절반은 서쪽 바다로 흐를 것이다. 여름 내내, 겨울 내내, 그렇게 흐를 것이다. (스가랴 14:8)

결국 하나님이 나서신다! 모든 것이 파괴되고 위기에 몰린상황에서 하나님이 그 일을 마침내 이루신다! 스가랴의 종말론적 고백은 파괴는 곧 하나님의 임재로 막아내시고 마침내 구원의 손길을 베푸신다는 고백입니다. 기존의 종말론적인 이해와는 다른 하나님의 극적인 개입과 구원입니다.

우리가 구원받았다! 라는 이야기를 할때 영원한 생명가운데 놓이게 되었다 또는 천국에 간다는 이해를 가집니다. 꽤 추상적인 개념이라 현실적으로 구원의 감격을 누리는 것이 깊이 와닿지 않은 경우가 있습니다. 내가 구원받았다는 것!에 대한 실제적인 이해는 천국행 열차 티켓을 따놓은 것처럼 지금은 아니고 먼훗날 마지막때즈음에 느껴질 그런 것으로 이해하는 분들도 있을 겁니다.

십자가의 구원은 우리들이 영원한 죽음에 이를 수 밖에 없었는데 예수님이 대신 그 죄를 대속하셨다는 것, 그리고 이로 인해 우리들은 영원한 죽음이 아니라 영원한 생명을 얻게되었다는 것, 그러므로 믿음으로 우리는 구원받는다는 것에 대한 이야기입니다. 즉 먼 훗날에 언제즈음에 일어날 일이 아니라, 바로 지금 고백되어져야 하는 것이고, 이런 영원한 생명에 사는 사람은 지금의 삶이 달라야 합니다.

우선, 구원받았다! 하면 무엇이 달라질까요? 매일을 주님께 묻습니다. 순간적인 멈춤에서 하나님께 묻습니다. 즉 늘 주님과 동행하고 있다는 마음으로 묻고 또 묻고, 내 지금 삶이 하나님이 이끌어가신다는 확신을 가지고 살아갑니다. 이렇게 주님이 늘 동행하시니 든든하고 긴장하고 이런저런 삶의 모양을 만들어가기 위해 노력합니다. 든든도 하지만, 긴장도 됩니다. 그리고 막연한 삶이 아니라 준비된 삶이라는 확신속에 살아갑니다. 개인적으로 중요하게 여기는 것은 공동체적 삶에, 즉 교회의 삶을 자연스럽게 자신의 인생에 중요한 시간으로 여깁니다. 마지못해가 아니라 필수적인 삶으로 교회공동체 안에서 삶을 뿌리내립니다.

간단한 이야기같지만 이 고백과 노력은 구별된 삶이라고 볼 수 있습니다.

어제 오클랜드 건물에 대한 모든 소송을 취하한다는 합의서에 싸인을 해서 보냈습니다. 최종적으로 거의 1년을 끌어온 일이 아무일도 아닌것처럼 되었습니다. 약간의 허탈함과 맘고생을 생각해보면 여전히 뭔가 아쉬운게 있지만, 그래도 우리 변호사의 말로는 "최선의 결정"이라는 말에 위로가 되었습니다. 우리 공동체, 열린교회가 겪은 이 시간은 귀하고 귀합니다. 함께 기도하고, 걱정했고, 최선의 결과를 마주했습니다. 개인의 일이라면 힘들었을텐데 함께 이 일을 헤쳐나간듯해서 기쁘고 감격스러웠습니다.

오후에 바로, 건물 매각을 위해 다른 브로커와 인터뷰를 했고 좀있다 다른 분과 인터뷰합니다. 아침 묵상 칼럼에서 이야기를 나누는 이유는 우리들이 함께 이 일을 주님과 동행하며 함께 일하고 있기때문이라는 생각때문입니다.

"On that day living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea and half of them to the western sea; it shall continue in summer as in winter."Zechariah 14:8 (NRSV)

At last, God Himself steps in! When everything seems destroyed and all hope appears lost, God acts and brings His work to completion. Zechariah's apocalyptic vision proclaims this truth: destruction itself becomes the threshold of God's presence, and in that very place, God stretches out His saving hand. This is not a distant or fearful end-times message—it is a revelation of God's dramatic intervention and redemption.

When we say, "We are saved!" we often think of it as possessing eternal life or going to heaven someday. Yet this can feel abstract and distant from our present reality. Some imagine salvation as a ticket to heaven—something that matters only in the distant future.

But the salvation of the Cross is not merely about a future destination. It is the confession that though we were destined for eternal death, Jesus took our place, and through Him we have received eternal life. Therefore, salvation is not something to be experienced later—it is something to be confessed and lived now. Those who live in eternal life today live differently.

What changes when we truly say, "I am saved"? We begin to ask the Lord about everything—every moment of pause, every decision, every step. We live with the awareness that God walks with us. This daily companionship makes us both secure and attentive—secure in His presence, yet careful to live a life shaped by that grace.

Such a life is not vague or accidental; it is a prepared life, lived with purpose. For many, this includes rooting themselves naturally in the life of the church community—not out of obligation, but because life in Christ overflows into life with His people.

It may sound simple, but this continual confession and commitment form the essence of a distinct, holy life.

Yesterday, I signed the final settlement papers to dismiss all litigation related to the Oakland property. After nearly a year, the matter was closed as if nothing had ever happened. There's a trace of emptiness after so much waiting and heartache, yet our attorney called it "the best possible outcome."

Throughout it all, our Open Church community has journeyed together in prayer, concern, and perseverance—and that shared experience is precious. What could have been unbearable alone became bearable together. I am deeply grateful.

This afternoon, I met with new brokers to discuss the next steps in selling the property. I share this in our morning devotion because I see all these things as part of our shared walk with the Lord.
