주님께서 온 세상의 왕이 되실 것이다. 그 날이 오면, 사람들은 오직 주님 한 분만을 섬기고, 오직 그분의 이름 하나만으로 간구할 것이다. (스가랴 14:9)

한국에 경주에서 APEC(Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation_아시아 태평양 경제협력체)이 열리고 있습니다. 1988년부터 호주의 요청으로 시작된 모임이 이제는 모든 아시아와 태평양을 낀 나라들이 참여하고 있습니다. 경제협려및 자유무역을 위해 세워진 기관인데 아마 국가 수장들이 모이다보니 정상회담이 이루어지는 뭔가 큰 이벤트 뉴스가 등장하는 모임입니다. 한국에서는 2005년 이후에 두번째로 개최했고, 미국이 참여하다보니 큰 뉴스들이 등장하는 것 같습니다.

단연 뉴스는 한국에서 미국 대통령에게 신라금관을 선물했다는 뉴스입니다. NO KING 운동을 하는 미국에서는 "정말 이러기야~!"라는 반응도 있지만,"취향저격"이라는 뉴스도 있습니다. 재미있는 반응중에는 원래 무덤에 함께 뭍어두는 것 아니냐?라는 말로 신라금관의 의미를 색다르게 이야기하는 분들도 있습니다.

외교든 거래든 주고받는 비지니스처럼 되어버린건 불과 몇년안된것 같습니다. 세상은 소위 비지니스가 지배하는 시대이면서 투자와 수익이 기업의 노력이 아니라 개인의 노력으로 이해되는 비지니스 전성시대인것 같습니다. 학교도 비지니스이고, 이제는 교회도 비지니스 개념이 들어오고 있습니다.

이런 시대에 오랜된 영성을 지켜낸다는 의미는 과연 우리들에게 어떻게 이해되고 받아들여질 수 있을까? 신실한 예배자로 하나님께 예배한다는 의미! 교회를 세워간다는 의미는 어떤 의미일까?

교회를 오린다로 옮긴 이후에 교회의 새로운 변화를 위해 노력해왔습니다. 이런저런 굵직한 일때문에 더디게 움직이지만, 제가 보낸 1년은 참 외로운 시간이라는 생각이 들었습니다. 모두가 관심갖는 것보다 그렇지 않은 것에 신경을 써야하니 마땅한 소통도 마땅한 방법도 존재하지 않기때문에 느껴지는 것입니다.

마치 세상이 이렇게 굴러가는데 거꾸로 뭔가를 하려는 의지는 만만치 않은 현실앞에 놓인 돌지 않는 바람개비같은 느낌입니다.

저에게 가장 큰 기도제목은 지금 이대로를 원하면 그냥 지금 이대로 가면 아무 문제없습니다. 그런데 여기서 한단계 더 성장하고 달라지기를 바란다면 근본적인 변화를 줘야하지 않을까? 라는 것에 있습니다. 이미 익숙 해져버린 시스템, 예배형식 부터 여러 부서의 사역의 모양까지도 바꾸지 않으면 아무런 변화를 이뤄내지 못할것이라는 생각도 들었습니다. 캠퍼스사역도 그렇고, 찬양팀, 교회학교부터 소그룹사역등 우리들은 마땅히 하고 있다고 믿는 것을 깊이 점검해보는 시간이 필요할것 같다는 생각이 듭니다.

다들 전례없는 교회가 어려운 시기들이라고 이야기합니다. 교회는 초대교회부터 쉽지 않았고, 늘 고민이 많았습니다. 여기서 만약 여러분들도 열린교회가 더 달라지고 새로워지고 성장하고 부흥하기를 원한다면 생각보다 많은 것을 바꾸려고 노력해야한다는 것에 힘을 쏟아야 합니다. 이말은 매일 교회를 생각하고 교회사역과 교회공동체에 대한 기도와 고민을 통해 드러날 수 있습니다.

지금 우리들이 읽는 본문은 "회복"이 주제입니다.

회복은 희생과 헌신을 통해 하나님이 역사하시는 것을 기대하는 것을 말합니다. 하나님이 왕으로 통치하신다는 의미는 군림과 억압이 아니라 평화와 보호라는 고백을 이끌어냅니다.

하나님의 평화와 고백이 가득한 교회를 기대합니다.

"The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name." (Zechariah 14:9)

The Lord will be King over the whole world. When that day comes, people will worship the Lord alone and call upon His name only.

Right now, the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit is being held in Gyeongju, Korea. Established in 1989 following Australia's proposal, APEC now includes nearly all nations around the Asia-Pacific region. Though created to promote economic cooperation and free trade, when heads of state gather, it naturally becomes a major event that dominates the news. This is Korea's second time hosting APEC since 2005, and with U.S. participation, it has drawn significant international attention.

The headline that drew the most attention was the Korean government's gift of a Silla golden crown to the U.S. President. In the United States—where anti-monarchical sentiment runs deep—reactions were mixed. Some responded with surprise: "Really? You gave a king's crown?" Others found it fitting: "That's actually a perfect gift." One person even joked, "Isn't that something you're supposed to bury with the dead?"—adding a humorous twist to the crown's symbolism.

Diplomacy and commerce have become nearly indistinguishable today—everything feels like business. We live in an era dominated by business logic, where investment and profit are often seen not as corporate achievements but as personal ones. Schools have become businesses. Even churches are increasingly shaped by this transactional mindset.

In such an age, what does it mean to preserve ancient spirituality? What does it mean to be a faithful worshiper of God? What does it mean to build the church in a world driven by transactions and outcomes?

Since relocating our church to Orinda, we have worked hard toward new beginnings and transformation. But honestly, this past year has also felt lonely. Focusing on matters that others didn't find interesting or urgent meant that communication sometimes felt limited and connection difficult.

At times, it feels as though the world spins in one direction while I stand still, pushing against the wind—like a windmill refusing to turn.

My deepest prayer these days is this: If we are content to remain as we are, then staying the same poses no problem. But if we long to grow, to change, and to experience renewal, then we must embrace deep and fundamental transformation.

Our familiar systems, worship styles, and ministry structures may all need to change. Without this willingness, we cannot expect true renewal. The same applies to our campus ministry, praise team, children's ministry, and small groups—perhaps it's time to take a closer, more honest look at what we assume is "working."

Everyone says these are difficult times for the church. Yet the church has always faced challenges since its beginning. If we want Yeolin Church to grow, become more vibrant, and be renewed, we must be willing to change far more than we imagine. That renewal begins when we pray for our church daily, reflect on our mission, and wrestle together with how we serve God's people.

Today's passage speaks of restoration.

Restoration means trusting that God will act through our sacrifice and devotion. When we confess that God reigns as King, it is not about domination or power—it is about peace and divine protection.

May Yeolin Church be filled with God's peace and with the confession that "The Lord alone is King."

Intercessory Prayers

1. For Hyerim and Hueybin's son, Yejun: He was injured in a fall at the school playground and is currently hospitalized. Doctors are monitoring him to determine whether surgery is needed. Please pray for his complete healing and for peace for his family.

2. For Sookhee Kim: A nodule has been discovered in her lung, and surgery may be necessary. Please pray for successful treatment and full recovery.

3. For the upcoming Dinner Church (Saturday, November 1, 4 p.m.): Pray that this gathering will overflow with grace, hospitality, and the living presence of Christ among us.
