돈을 사랑하는 것이 모든 악의 뿌리입니다. 돈을 좇다가, 믿음에서 떠나 헤매기도 하고, 많은 고통을 겪기도 한 사람이 더러 있습니다. (디모데전서 6:10)

요즘 홈페이지는 업데이트하느라 어제 칼럼은 외부 블러그를 이용했습니다. 홈페이안에 영문 안내가 없어서 영문으로 내용을 추가하고 새로운 장소에서의 사역을 소개하기 위해 손을 보고 있습니다. 전문가가 아니다 보니 시간을 내서 하나하나 배우며 수정하다보니 시간이 제법 오래 걸리고 아직도 완성단계는 아닙니다. 확인해보시고 필요한것 또는 수정내용을 알려주시면 감사하겠습니다.

오늘 바울이 디모데를 통해 교회에 권면한 내용은 교회안에 기본적인 질서에 대한 내용입니다. 노예가 있던 시절 한 집안에 주인과 노예가 동시에 예수를 믿게되어 그리스도인이 되었을때 생기는 문제에 대해서 이야기합니다. 대부분 우리들이 생각할때 주인은 노예들에게 그리스도안에서 형제와 자매와 같은 동등하고 따뜻한 사랑을 나눌 것을 기대하겠지만, 바울은 노예들이 주인을 잘 공경할 것을 부탁합니다. 이는 로마외부에 드러나는 기독교인들이 당시의 사회질서를 혼란스럽게 하는 공동체가 아니라 모범적인 공동체로 드러나기를 바랬던 바울의 기대가 담겨있습니다. 이는 노예를 함부로 대하는 주인에게도 특별하게 색다른 가르침으로 들렸을 것입니다. 서로의 존중을 이끌어내는 바울의 지혜입니다.

그리고 두번째로는 교회안에서 논쟁과 다툼에 몰두하는 이들을 경계할 것을 바울은 강력하게 이야기합니다. 논쟁 다툼 이 두가지는 교회를 무너뜨리는 행위중에 가장 힘있는 행위들입니다. 좋은 교회는 논쟁과 다툼이 아니라 기도가 있습니다. 기도가 있다는 것은 서로 말다툼을 통해 자기 생각을 주장하는데 익숙하지 않고, 기도를 통해 자기생각을 죽이는데 익숙하다는 의미입니다. 기도는 다른 의미로 내 의지와 주장을 사그라뜨리고 하나님의 뜻을 찾기 위한 노력이라는 점을 기억해야합니다.

또한 바울은 물질에 위험을 경고합니다. 물질이 풍요로우면 불편한 것을 줄어들 수 있겠지만, 이것이 목적이되면 즉 자족하지 못하고 더 많은 것을 갖고자 할때 그 삶에서 경건을 찾기 힘들어진다는 것입니다.

이 세가지 바울의 가르침은 오날늘 이런저런 지혜의 글에서도 찾을 수 있습니다. 또는 도리라고 여기는 집단지성이 동의할 수 있는 내용들이라고 도 볼 수 있습니다. 다시 원점으로 가면 이미 우리는 많은 것을 알고 있지만, 그렇게 살아내는 것이 가장 큰 과제라는 뜻입니다.

모든 것을 신경쓰고 다른 사람을 배려하며 살라는 의미도 아닙니다. 각자의 경건한 삶을 위해 일반적인 사고와 행위를 몸에 익숙하게 드러내는 것이 온전한 그리스도인의 모습입니다. 아마 여러분들의 마음속에는 이미 어떤 사람이 진정한 그리스도인인가?에 대한 내용들로 가득차있을 것입니다. 그것을 삶으로 드러낼 수 있어야 합니다.

1. 교회의 영어예배부를 만들기 위해 기도하고 노력중에 있습니다. 순조롭게 잘 진행되도록 기도해주세요.

2. 오늘 오전에는 장로님과 교회옆에 무너진 팬스를 수리하려고 합니다. 생각한대로 잘될 수 있도록 기도해주세요. 머릿속의 생각은 교회를 지고도 넘칠만한데 실제 손기술은 기도가 필요합니다. ^^

"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." (1 Timothy 6:10)

Recently, we used an external blog for yesterday’s column as we’re currently in the process of updating our website. Since there isn’t yet an English guide on the homepage, I’m working on adding English content and introducing our new ministry location. I'm not a professional, so I'm learning and revising step by step, and it's taking quite some time. The site is still not in its final form. I would appreciate it if you could take a look and let me know if there’s anything missing or in need of revision.

Today, Paul’s exhortation to the church through Timothy focuses on basic order within the church. He addresses an issue from the time when slavery was still prevalent—what happens when both master and slave become believers in Jesus and are part of the same household? Many of us might expect Paul to urge masters to treat their slaves as equals, as brothers and sisters in Christ. However, Paul instead urges slaves to respect and honor their masters. This reflects Paul's desire that Christians, especially in the eyes of the Roman world, be seen not as disruptive but as exemplary members of society. Such a teaching would have been especially striking for masters who were accustomed to treating slaves with little regard. It’s a wisdom that encourages mutual respect.

Secondly, Paul strongly warns against those within the church who are absorbed in disputes and quarrels. These two behaviors—argument and conflict—are among the most destructive forces in a church. A good church is not defined by arguments and fights, but by prayer. A praying church is one in which people are not accustomed to asserting their own opinions through disputes, but rather are practiced in surrendering their own thoughts through prayer. Prayer, in a deeper sense, is the act of laying down one’s will and desires to seek the will of God.

Paul also warns of the dangers of material wealth. While financial abundance may reduce certain inconveniences, when it becomes the goal—when we are not content but constantly seek more—true godliness becomes harder to attain.

These three teachings of Paul can be found echoed in many of today’s writings on wisdom or common sense. One could even say they are values supported by collective human conscience. Ultimately, it reminds us that while we may know much, living it out is the greatest challenge.

This doesn’t mean we have to be overly concerned with everything or try to please everyone. Rather, a true Christian life is shown by consistently reflecting godly thoughts and actions in our daily habits. Many of you likely already have an idea in your heart of what a genuine Christian looks like. The key is to embody that in your life.

1. We are praying and working toward starting an English-speaking ministry at our church. Please pray that the process goes smoothly.

2. This morning, I will be working with one of our elders to repair the broken fence next to the church. Please pray that everything goes well as planned. I have plenty of ideas in my head—enough to build more than just a church—but when it comes to actual hands-on work, I definitely need prayer. :)
