16나는 복음을 부끄러워하지 않습니다. 이 복음은 유대 사람을 비롯하여 그리스 사람에게 이르기까지, 모든 믿는 사람을 구원하는 하나님의 능력입니다. 17하나님의 의가 복음 속에 나타납니다. 이 일은 오로지 믿음에 근거하여 일어납니다. 이것은 성경에 기록한 바 “의인은 믿음으로 살 것이다” 한 것과 같습니다. (로마서 1:16-17)

에스겔의 글은 반복적이고 심판에 대한 이야기로 가득합니다. 아직 다 읽지 않았는데 로마서로 옮겨간 이유는 에스겔의 후반부가 곧 회복의 메시지를 바뀌기 전에 로마서가 가진 복음의 진수로 무거운 이야기를 믿음과 은혜의 관점으로 균형을 잡기 위한 것 같습니다.

로마서는 바울이 직접 개척하지 않은 로마교회에 예수 그리스도의 복음의 의미가 무엇인지를 가르치기 위해 노력합니다. 오늘 읽은 본문에서 바울은 계속해서 로마교회를 위해 중보기도하고 있음을 또한, 꼭 방문하기를 원한다는 내용으로 편지를 시작하고 있습니다.

"믿음으로 의롭게 된다"는 가장 기독교적인 고백을 기록한 내용은 사실 자신이 직접 개척을 하지 않고도 교회가 시작된 로마를 보면서 복음이 움직이는 생명력의 근원은 "믿음"이란느 것에 바울이 확신을 얻었던것 같습니다.

지난 주간 폭풍같은 스케쥴을 소화하고 평온한 화요일을 시작합니다. 디너처치에 청년수련회에 더운 날씨에 모두가 최선을 다해 모여서 하나님을 향한 열정을 드러낸 모임들은 우리들이 지금 어디로 향하고 있는지를 잘 보여주고 있습니다.

모이고, 찬양하고, 기도하고 삶을 나누고, 교회의 전형적인 모습이죠. 그리고 여기에 무언가를 새롭게 시작하고. 다들 아시겠지만, 이 모든 행사와 이벤트에는 누군가의 헌신과 노력 그리고 희생을 기반으로 합니다. 로마서에서 바울은 바로 그 누군간의 희생과 헌신으로 세우진 로마교회를 보며, 하나님이 어떻게 복음을 전하시고 역사하시는 지를 보여줍니다. 계산된일이 아니라, 하나님이 이끄시는 예상치 못한 일을 기대하는 것, 이것이 우리들이 고백하는 신앙! 생활!입니다.

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel. It is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” (Romans 1:16–17)

Ezekiel’s writing is repetitive and full of judgment. Although I haven’t finished reading it yet, the reason I moved to Romans is that, before Ezekiel turns to the message of restoration in its later chapters, I wanted to balance the weight of judgment with the essence of the gospel that Romans holds—viewing it all from the perspective of faith and grace.

Romans is Paul’s effort to teach the Roman church—one he did not plant himself—what the gospel of Jesus Christ truly means. In today’s passage, Paul begins his letter by saying he continually intercedes for the Roman church and earnestly longs to visit them.

The powerful statement, “We are justified by faith,” may have been Paul’s deep confession as he watched the church in Rome—planted not by him but springing forth nevertheless—realizing that the true driving force of the gospel’s spread is faith itself.

After a whirlwind of a week, we begin a calm Tuesday. From Dinner Church to the youth retreat, in the summer heat, everyone gave their best—gathering to worship, pray, and express passion for God. These gatherings show us clearly where we are heading as a community.

Gathering, singing, praying, sharing life together—this is the classic picture of the church. And from here, something new begins. As you know, every event and gathering stands on someone’s devotion, effort, and sacrifice. Paul, seeing the Roman church that had been established by such sacrifice and faithfulness, shows us how God spreads the gospel and works in history. It’s not a calculated plan but an expectation of the unexpected ways God leads us. This is the faith and life we confess!
