스가랴 4 : 1~14, 2025.10.17 (금)

그가 내게 이렇게 말해 주었다. “이것은 주님께서 스룹바벨을 두고 하신 말씀이다. ‘힘으로도 되지 않고, 권력으로도 되지 않으며, 오직 나의 영으로만 될 것이다.’ 만군의 주님께서 말씀하신다. (스가랴 4:6)

오랫만에 나눔을 전합니다. 기회를 보고 묵상을 나누려고 했는데 여의치가 않습니다. 처음 일주일은 초저녁에 잠이들었고, 시차를 어느정도 적응할때쯤 되니, 이제 돌아가는 시간이 되었습니다. 주로 저의 일정은 어머니와 시간을 보내고 건강검진과 그 과정에서 필요한 검사들 그리고 목회자들을 만나는 거였습니다.

네팔선교를 위해 $3,798 선교비가 모였는데 임현근 집사님이 수고해주셔서 선교사님께 잘 전달되었습니다. 한국에서 잠깐 네팔 선교회 목사님들과 시간을 보내면서 저희가 보낸 선교비로 진아학교에 필요한 물품을 구입하면 좋겠다는 의견을 주셔서 (저희 교회 후원이라는 이름을 명시한) 선교사님이 원하시는대로 쓰시라 말씀드렸습니다. 저희가 조금 용기를 내면 내년쯤 네팔의 선교지를 방문해서 그 수고에 힘을 나누고 더 나아가 이번에 함께 모은 선교비의 열매를 확인할 수 있겠다는 마음이 생겼습니다.

한국에서 잠을 자면 10시간을 이상 잔것 같습니다. 시차와 피곤함이 섞여서 그런것 같은데, 나름대로 육체적으로나 영적으로 잘 쉰것 같습니다.

돌아가기 몇일전부터는 한해를 마무리할 일들을 준비하느라 분주했습니다. 구역회 준비도 그렇고, 맞겨진 일과, 여기저기서 오는 이메일을 처리하고 교회소송에 대한 최종결정이 아직 도착하지 않아서 확인 이메일도 보냈는데 조금 더디어 지는 것 같습니다.

위의 사진은 별마당 도서관이라는 것입니다. 한국에 있는 내내 가을 장마라 이런 실내 공간에 사람들이 가득합니다. 한참을 사람들이 지나가는 것을 지켜보는데 외국에 많이 알려져서 사진찍는 외국인들이 많았습니다. 저도 덩달아 사진을 찍어서 나눠야겠다는 생각이 들어 이리 나누게 되었습니다.

잠시 머뭇했더니 성경이 스가랴로 넘어갔습니다. 마침 교보문고에서 "제 2 성전기"라는 책을 구입해서 읽고 있었는데, 스가랴는 파괴된 성전을 재건하면서 기록된 즉 제2성전을 건축하는 과정에서 기록된 성경입니다. 성전재건은 만만치 않았습니다. 오늘 읽은 본문에 "힘으로도 되지 않고, 권력으로 되지 않으며, 오직 영으로만 될것이다"라는 구절은 그 시절이나 지금을 살아가는 우리들에게도 깊이 새겨지는 고백이라는 것을 우리도 잘 압니다.

순조롭게 일이 될것 같지만, 사람의 생각과 힘으로 되는 것이 아니라, 하나님이 이끌어가시고 채우셔야 일이 된다는 것을 지난 2년동안 우리는 깊이 깨달았습니다. 아마 앞으로도 우리들은 함께 깨달은 이 고백을 열린교회의 깊은 자양분으로 품고 살아가야 하리라 믿습니다.

시간은 순식간이고 그날은 결국 가까이에 옵니다. 아이들은 지혜로워지고, 어른들은 현명해지며, 현명해진 어른은 말이 없어지는 그 시간을 맞습니다.

몇시간 후면 돌아가는 비행기에 오릅니다. 풀어나눌 보따리를 잔뜩들고 가는데 지나치지도, 그렇다고 인색하지도 않게 함께 나누고 싶은 마음에 벌써 교회에 제 마음이 있는것 같습니다. 곧 뵙겠습니다.

It's been a while since I last shared an update. I've been meaning to write, but time slipped away. During my first week here, I fell asleep early every evening, and just as I began adjusting to the time difference, it was already time to return.

Most of my days have been spent with my mother, undergoing health checkups and follow-up tests, and meeting with fellow pastors.

For our Nepal mission, we collected $3,798, which was faithfully delivered to the missionary through the help of Deacon Hyunkeun Lim. While in Korea, I briefly met with pastors connected to the Nepal Mission Association. They suggested using the funds to purchase necessary supplies for Jina School. I encouraged the missionary to use the funds as they feel most needed, with acknowledgment that the support comes from Yeolin Church.

If we take a small step of courage, perhaps next year we can visit the Nepal mission site ourselves—to share in their labor and witness firsthand the fruit of this offering.

I think I've slept more than ten hours each night while here. Perhaps it's a combination of jet lag and accumulated fatigue, but in many ways—both physically and spiritually—I feel deeply rested.

In these last few days before returning, I've been busy preparing to close out the year—getting ready for the church conference, following up on assigned tasks, replying to numerous emails, and waiting for the final court decision on our church's legal case, which has been delayed a bit longer than expected.

The photo above was taken at Starfield Library in Seoul. Because of the autumn rain season, indoor places like this are always crowded. I spent a while simply watching people pass by—many foreign visitors taking pictures since it's become such a well-known spot. I decided to take one as well and share it with you.

As I paused there, my reading brought me to the book of Zechariah. Coincidentally, I had just purchased a book titled The Second Temple Period at Kyobo Bookstore. Zechariah was written during the rebuilding of the destroyed temple—what we now call the Second Temple. The work of reconstruction was not easy. Today's passage reminds us again: "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit"—a confession that still speaks powerfully to us today.

Though things may seem to progress smoothly, we know well that true work is not accomplished by human strength or wisdom alone—it must be led and filled by God. Over the past two years, we've come to understand this truth deeply. I believe this shared confession will continue to be one of the sustaining foundations of Yeolin Church.

Time passes quickly, and that day always draws near. Children grow in wisdom, adults gain discernment, and as the wise mature, they learn the beauty of silence.

In just a few hours, I'll be boarding my flight back. I carry a heart full of stories and reflections—neither too much nor too little—to share with you. My heart is already back at church. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Intercessory Prayer

1. Please pray that during the remaining two months of 2024, our church and all our members may be filled with God's grace and peace.

2. Next Saturday will be the Women's Mission Choir Festival. Please pray that through the sincere preparation of Yeolin Church's choir and congregation, this will be a time that brings glory to God.

3. Dinner Church will be held on Saturday, November 1st at 4:00 p.m. This time, we're preparing a special BBQ gathering. Please keep us in your prayers.
