저희 교회 걸그룹이에요, We're the church girl group

주님의 영광이 성전 문지방을 떠나, 그룹들 위로 가서 머물렀다. (에스겔 10:18)

에스겔이 본 환상은 하나님의 영이 성전을 떠난다는 비극적인 이야기로 읽혀질 수 있지만, 다르게 보면, 이제 더이상 하나님의 영이 성전안에만 갖혀있지 않고, 어디든진 함께할수 있다는 "성전밖의 하나님"이라는 새로운 이해를 가져오게 합니다.

포로기에 가장 큰 질문은 "하나님은 저기 예루살렘 성전에 계시기 때문에, 지금 있는 바벨론에는 하나님이 안계시다."라는 절망적인 물음들이었습니다.

이런 물음은 꼬리에 꼬리를 물고는 결국 하나님께 철저히 버림 받은 이스라엘 그리고 이제는 다시 돌아갈 수 없는 이스라엘이라는 낙인론이 펼쳐졌을 것입니다.

이런 위기의 순간에 에스겔예언자의 등장과 그가 본 환상은 하나님의 임재에 대한 의미를 확장하게 이끌어갑니다. 에스겔의 환상은 단순히 심판에 대한 이야기같지만, 결국 하나님은 우리를 구원하시기 위해 우리들의 생각을 뛰어넘은 시는 분이라는 것을 알려주고 있습니다.

고정된 시각을 벗어나는 것은 쉽지 않습니다. 평생을 하나님은 성전에만 계신줄 알았던 자들이 멀리 포로로 끌려온 그 곳에도 하나님이 함께하신다는 생각을 어떻게 할 수 있었겠습니까?

여기서 우리는 우리안에 가둬져있는 인식의 함정에서 벗어나기 위해 우리들이 어떤 노력을 해야할지를 생각해야합니다. 특히 교회나 신앙이라는 이름으로 우리들은 "그대로 그 자리에 머물러 있는 것"이 안정감 또는 지속적인 영적인 노력으로 오해하는 경우가 있습니다. 지켜야할 전통은 있지만, 바꿔야할 형식과 비전들도 많이 있다는 것을 기억해야합니다. 쉽지 않죠. 그래도 계속 노력해야 우리들이 기대하는 하나님 나라의 꿈을 실현하지 않겠습니까?

하나님은 늘 예상치 못하는 방법으로 은혜를 주시고 우리를 이끌어가십니다.

Ezekiel 10:18“Then the glory of the Lord departed from over the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim.”

The vision Ezekiel saw can be read as a tragic image of God’s Spirit departing from the temple. But on a deeper level, it offers a new understanding—God is not confined within the temple. This is the beginning of a vision of God beyond the temple, a God who is not limited by place but who chooses to be present wherever His people are.

During the exile, the prevailing and painful question was:"Since God is in the temple in Jerusalem, does that mean He is absent here in Babylon?"

Such questions led to a spiral of despair, reinforcing a belief that Israel had been utterly abandoned by God—that there was no going back, no restoration, no hope.

But into this moment of deep crisis, the prophet Ezekiel appears. And through his vision, the understanding of God’s presence begins to expand. Though it may seem like a vision of judgment, it ultimately proclaims this truth: God is not bound by our limited understanding. God moves, acts, and saves beyond what we can imagine.

Breaking free from fixed ways of seeing is never easy. For those who had believed all their lives that God resided solely in the temple, the idea that God could also be present with them in Babylon—deep in enemy territory—must have been unthinkable.

And yet, this is what Ezekiel’s vision teaches us: To escape the trap of our own assumptions, we must be willing to stretch our understanding. In church life and personal faith, it’s easy to mistake comfort and familiarity for faithfulness. We sometimes believe that “staying put” is spiritual perseverance, when in fact, God may be calling us to move, change, and grow.

There are traditions we must honor. But there are also forms and visions that must change. It’s hard work. But if we don’t try—how will we ever participate in the dream of God’s kingdom?

God continues to lead us in unexpected ways, pouring out grace where we never imagined.

1. We are currently in the midst of pastoral visits. Please pray that our planning and preparation will strengthen the church community.

2. Pray that Yeolin Church will both honor its traditions and strive toward new possibilities. On August 12, there will be a public hearing at the City of Orinda concerning a zoning change and housing element proposal for the land behind our church. Please pray for this important step.
