8 그러므로 나 주 하나님이 이렇게 말한다. 내가 친히 너희를 대적하겠다. 그리고 뭇 이방 사람이 보는 앞에서 내가 너희 가운데 벌을 내리겠다.

시간이 지나고 뭔가 손에 쥔게 없을때 그만큼 허무한것이 없겠죠. 예전에 교회학교 선생님이 저에게 건넨 한마디는 내 손에는 두 아들밖에 없다는 말이 무슨 뜻인지 잘 몰랐는데 요즘은 조금 알것 같다는 생각이 듭니다. 누구나 보낸 시간만큼 뭔가가 남아있기를 바라는 마음은 다양하게 당연하게 자리하고 있는것 같습니다. 어떤 사람은 물질이나 명예 또는 어떤 사람은 가장 가까운것 그리고 자기에게 소중한것..

예전에 어릴적 양복입은 셀러리맨이 늦은시간 프로야구 응원봉을 양손에 쥐고는 세상 행복한 표정으로 전철에 탄 모습이 아직도 기억이 남습니다. 이분은 뭐가 그리 행복해서 환하게 웃으며 양손에 프로야구 응원봉을 들고 있을까? 하루의 모든 스트레스를 다 날려버리고 온듯한 그분의 표정에 분주하게 집으로 돌아가는 전철안에서 그분을 계속 주시했던 기억이 있습니다.

에스겔은 다 망가진 이스라엘, 예루살렘에 대한 진단을 하나님으로 부터 듣고 기록하고 있습니다. 이미 완전히 망한 상황에서 이런 진단이 필요한 이유는 돌이켜 다시 회복하고자 하는 의지가 담겨있기 때문입니다. 에스겔의 입술을 통해 전해지는 남유다, 예루살렘의 악행은 낮낮히 들춰지고 결국 사람들은 왜 이런 일이 벌어졌는지를 깨닫게 될것이라는 기대를 가지고 있습니다. 이것은 곧 다시 돌이키는 힘을 만들어내기 위한것입니다.

심판은 어쩌면 돌이켜내기 위해 벌어진 치밀한 하나님의 계획으로 볼 수 있을 것 같습니다. 하나님이 보이시는 회복하고자 하는 의지가 심판의 모양으로 드러났다고 볼 수 있습니다.

삶을 리셋할때 또는 뭔가 새로운 결심을 통해 삶을 일으키고 싶을때 우리도 의지를 보입니다. 일찍 일어나는 것, 운동, 독서등 다양한 첼린지를 준비하는 것처럼, 하나님이 에스겔을 통해 하나 하나 첼린지를 준비합니다. 그 첫번째가 우리의 실체 돌아보기! 현실파악, 원인파악.

“Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself am against you, and I will inflict punishment on you in the sight of the nations.” (Ezekiel 5:8)

As time passes, one of the most bitter feelings is realizing that you have nothing to show for it. I once heard a church school teacher quietly say, “All I have in my hands are my two sons.” At the time, I didn’t quite understand what he meant, but now I think I’m beginning to get it. We all long to see something remain after the time we’ve invested—whether it’s wealth, honor, relationships, or something deeply personal and cherished.

I still remember seeing a man in a business suit on the subway late at night, holding two baseball cheering sticks with the happiest look on his face. I couldn’t stop watching him. He looked as if he had released all the stress of the day. I wondered what made him so happy—was it the game, the moment of release, or simply the joy of being alive?

In Ezekiel 5, the prophet records God’s diagnosis of Israel and Jerusalem—long after their collapse. Why offer a diagnosis after everything has fallen apart? Because even in judgment, there is a desire for repentance and restoration. God exposes the sin and rebellion of Jerusalem not to shame them endlessly, but to help them see and turn back.

The detailed judgment Ezekiel delivers is not just divine punishment—it’s also a call to return. God’s desire to restore is hidden even in the form of His wrath. It is a precise and deliberate plan to awaken the people from their hardened hearts. This is not the end; it’s the beginning of a spiritual reset.

Just like how we make resolutions to restart life—by waking up early, exercising, or reading more—God, through Ezekiel, lays out spiritual challenges. The first is this: facing reality. Looking in the mirror. Recognizing what went wrong.

• Please pray for Sister Seul-ah Kim, who has been unable to attend church after injuring her back. The pain is severe enough that she may need an MRI. Deaconess Jisoo Lee and Deaconess Misoon Kim are both recovering from wrist fractures and recent surgeries. Please lift them up in prayer for full healing.
